THE BIRTH OF CHRIST

PROPHECY OF THE MESSIAH

Isaiah 9:6

INTRO: From the time man first sinned in the Garden of Eden, there has been the need for a plan of redemption from man’s sin. Hence, the coming of the Messiah.

This morning, we are beginning a series of messages on the Birth of Christ.

I. MAN’S SIN.

A. Adam and Eve sinned.

1. Through disobedience:

a. Satan caused man to doubt God (Gen. 3:1).

b. Satan spoke openly against God (Gen. 3:4).

2. Satan persuaded man to eat the fruit of sin (v. 6).

a. Physical.

b. Beauty.

c. Knowledge.

B. Man’s sin brought punishment to all involved.

1. Serpent (vv. 14-15).

2. Woman (v. 16).

3. Man (vv. 17-18).

C. Sin brought death.

1. Physical--separation of soul from the body (v. 19).

2. Spiritual--separation of soul from God (Gen. 2:17; Rom. 6:23).

3. Sin is universal (Rom. 3:23).

II. GOD’S DIVINE PLAN INSTITUTED.

A. Jesus coming foretold.

1. Genesis 3:15.

2. Isaiah 11:1-2.

a. Christ’s dominion.

b. Wonderful name.

c. Christ’s wisdom.

d. Christ divine.

e. Christ King.

B. Christ was to come into this world:

1. To redeem man.

a. God could not look upon man in his sin.

b. Man in his sin is not fit for heaven.

2. To establish his church.

3. After Christ came and died, the priest would no longer be the

mediator for us.

a. Christ was to become our mediator.

b. We are to pray to Him!

4. Christ had foreknowledge of his impending death.

a. He came anyway knowing what was to come.

b. He came because he loved us.

c. He came to please the Father.

d. Man is telling his boss he would die on Friday, but be

back to work on Monday.

CONC: The coming of Christ was to be a glorious, triumphant, fulfillment of God’s plan to redeem the world.
