GOD DOES MARVELOUS THINGS WITHOUT NUMBER

“Who does great things, and unsearchable, Marvelous things without number” (Job 5:9)

The works of God are manifold, and not to be counted; the stars of heaven, the fowls of the air, the beasts of the field, and cattle on a thousand hills, the fishes of the sea, small and great (Psalm 104:25) ; we may add the small grain of sand , tiny particles that can be seen through a microscope; the various things done every day in providence, the special blessings of goodness, and the kind thoughts of the heart of God, which, if one attempt to reckon up, they are more than can be numbered (Psalm 40:5).

Wonder reveals God’s ability to do things beyond the powers and expectations of human. JOB exclaims that God does “great things past finding out; yes, and wonders without number” (Job 9:10; 5:9). We see God’s wonders every day--in creation, in His workings in our lives, and in our children (the beautiful miracles He has given us.)

Every new baby is a miracle from God--a unique new person who has never lived on the earth before and there will never be another one like him or her. How amazing! Take time to look at your children and appreciate the miracles they are. Thank God for them. Embrace them as miracles and joy in them.

The miraculous conception of Isaac in Genesis 18:14 describes the wonder working power of God: “Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life and Sarah shall have a son.” God miraculously restored Sarah’s womanly cycle and she conceived during the “time of life,” the time of the month when the womb is ready for conception and a miracle of God. Although this was a very special miracle to an older woman, every married woman has this opportunity for a miracle during her “time of life.”

The vast portion of the heavens is found to consist wholly of stars, crowded into immense clusters. On first presenting a telescope of considerable power to this splendid zone, we are lost in astonishment at the number, the variety, and the beautiful configuration of the stars of which it is composed. In certain parts of it, every slight motion of the telescope presents new groups and new configurations; and the new and wondrous scene is continued over a space of many degrees in succession. The acutest eye can discern in the whole heavens during the clearest night but cannot comprehend the number of stars in the portion of the Heaven." Looking up into the night sky, it's challenging enough for an amateur astronomer to count the number of naked-eye stars that are visible. With bigger telescopes, more stars become visible, making counting impossible because of the amount of time it would take. Telescopes may not be able to view all the stars in a galaxy. It has been said that counting the stars in the Universe is like trying to count the number of sand grains on a beach on Earth.

A study by Yale astronomer Pieter van Dokkum just took the estimated number of stars in the universe—100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, or 100 sextillions. (Source - "The Estimated Number of Stars in the Universe Just Tripled by Andrew Moseman "(Dec 2, 2010))

Yet all this may be as nothing compared with the parts of the universe which we are unable to discover. God does marvelous things without number.

Some men can do great things, many have done great things according to human standard, but they cannot do them without number. Even a child can write the number of things that a man does but nobody can count the marvelous works of God. He can do a million great things and still do more. His works are unsearchable and innumerable and can do them forever. Take heed of setting bounds to God, of limiting the Holy one of Israel.

OUR DUTY AS CHRISTIANS

1.Do not limit God in works of spiritual mercy. Don’t be afraid to ask for pardon of sin because you have asked it often. His great works of forgiveness are without number; “Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon” (Isaiah 55:7). “In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time, they left Egypt until now.” (Numbers 14:19).

It is not good to move our hearts to sin because God will pardon often; however, it is good to seek God to pardon our sins again because He pardon without number, His mercy is without number. “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your loving-kindness; according to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions” (Psalm 51:1).
