TOPIC: COSTLY ASSUMPTION
TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 2: 1-10 emphasis verse 8
Introduction:
There is a popular saying that “Assumption can be costly”. This saying is a wise saying and it is correct. God does not want us to have assumptions but rather have faith.
Faith is having an assurance that God will do it. Relying solely on God.
Outline 1
What is an Assumption?
Definition 1: A thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof. "they made certain assumptions about the market"
Synonyms: supposition, presupposition, presumption, premise, belief, expectation, conjecture, speculation, surmise, guess, theory, hypothesis, postulation, conclusion, deduction, inference, thought, suspicion, notion, impression, fancy;
Definition 2. The definition of an assumption is an idea that is formed without evidence. An example of an assumption is that there will be food at a party.
You can assume a bag of rice is N30, 000 but on getting to the market, you discover that it is N35,000. What do you do? Do you go back home or what?
There’s an expectation of people concerning a particular thing or person and that expectation was not met. It kills one’s spirit.
You had believed so much in a person that he cannot fail you only to discover that the person had failed you.
Imagine God had spoken good of you to the devil like he did to Job: “Have you considered my servant Job that there’s none like him, a man that esheweth evil and walketh uprightly.
There is a primary requirement, a basic requirement, core values.
Imagine a student of SS3 class asked to define what a NOUN is and he starts saying “ehm, you know, as in, for example…”
The bible passage talked about Solomon requesting for a man that will build an house for the Lord. The focal point was that he said, “FOR I KNOW that ….”
He had an assurance that the servants of Huram, the King of Tyre can skill to cut timber in Lebanon. The question is “Is that assertion correct?”
If a king has a very great assignment he wants to do and he trusts that you should be able to deliver and achieve it only to be shocked it is a lie.
Let’s ask ourselves, is my life deceiving, do I measure up to the standard?
“For I Know” is a word of Affirmation, a conviction, a believe and trust bequeathed to a person or something.
God has great expectations for us as believers. We were called believers or Christians because we live like Christ. We need to have characteristics and qualities. That is what will qualify you to be a “Christian”.
Don’t assume you are born again. Be sure. Examine yourself if you are still in faith. Don’t assume that you have the fruits of the spirit – exercise them, prove them, let people see it in manifestation.
Your tree must bear fruits. That is the essence of a tree to bear fruits. If not, it will be cursed, cut down and burnt.
