Be Ready for His Return
Matthew 24:42-51
I. Concern about Suddenness (42-44)
A. Uncertain
1. ‘Ye know not the hour’
2. ‘Such an hour as ye think not’
B. Unknown
1. As a thief
2. Unexpected

II. Concern about Stewardship (45-47)
A. Faithful
1. 1 Cor. 4:2, “Moreover it is required in
stewards, that a man be found faithful”
B. Wise
1. Parable in Matthew 7
(Wise man/house on rock)
2. Planned and invested for the future
C. Blessed
1. Reward (vs. 47)
2. Matthew 25:21, “His lord said unto him,
Well done, thou good and faithful servant:
thou hast been faithful over a few things,
I will make thee ruler over many things:
enter thou into the joy of thy lord”
III. Concern about Sin (48-51)
A. Unfaithful
1. Disobedient
B. Unwise
1. Abusive to self and others
2. Presumptuous about Lord’s return
C. Punished
1. ‘cut him asunder’ –
form of ancient punishment
a. denotes severe punishment
2. Public shame ‘portion with hypocrites’
3. Intense guilt ‘weeping, gnashing’
