Psalm 30 Ups and Downs

I. From Hurting to Healing.

i. The Prayer for Healing -

8 I cried to thee, O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication.

ii. The Praise for Healing -

2 O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

iii. The Purpose of Healing - 4 Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his,

and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

II. From Weeping to Joy.

5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life:

weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

i. This is an Evident truth - 5 For his anger endureth but a moment;

ii. an Everyday truth - in his favour is life:

iii. an Encouraging truth - weeping may endure for a night,

iv. an Eternal truth - but joy cometh in the morning.

2 Corinthians 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

Not first the beautiful and then the true.

First the wild moor, with rock and fen and pool

Then the gay garden rich in scent and hue .

Not first the glad and then the sorrowful

But first the sorrowful and then the glad,

Tears for a day, for earth of tears is full,

Then we forget that we were ever sad.

Not first the bright and after that the dark,

But first the dark and after that the bright;

First the thick cloud, and then the rainbow’s arc,

First the dark grave, then resurrection light.

‘Tis first the night, stern night of storm and war

Long night of heavy clouds and veiled skies,

Then the far sparkle of the Morning Star

That bids the saints awake and dawn arise."

III. From Prosperity to Prayer. There Is -

i. Folly in prosperity -

6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.

ii. Forgetfulness in prosperity -

7 Lord, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong:

iii. Failure in prosperity -

7 thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

A. His Request - 8 I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.

B. His Reasoning - 9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee?

C. His Reliance - 10 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper. He is saying – God I can’t, but you can.

IV. From Mourning to Dancing.

11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing:

thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

V. From Silence to Singing.

12 to the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

1 Thessalonians 5:16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
