INTRODUCTION:

Challenges are an inevitable part of life, but as believers, our response to trials distinguishes us from the world. Faith is not the absence of trouble, but the unshakeable confidence in God’s promises even when circumstances seem contrary. Every believer will at some point face storms—sickness, loss, opposition, delays, or persecution—but we are not called to crumble under pressure, rather we are called to stand firm in faith.

Faith in the face of challenges is a powerful force. It keeps us steady, hopeful, and focused on God’s faithfulness. Hebrews 11, often referred to as the Hall of Faith, is filled with individuals who endured great trials and yet trusted God unwaveringly. Their stories prove that faith works, especially in difficult seasons.

This message is a call to hold on to your faith, even when things don’t make sense. It is when everything seems against you that your faith speaks the loudest. Let us now explore five ways to activate and maintain faith in the face of challenges.

1. BELIEVE THAT GOD IS WITH YOU IN THE STORM

God never promised a life free from troubles, but He promised His constant presence. Knowing that God is with you gives you strength to face anything.

a) God walks with us through fire and flood (Isaiah 43:2):

Even in the most severe situations, God ensures we are not consumed.

b) You are never alone in your struggles (Psalm 23:4):

The Good Shepherd is with us even in the valley of the shadow of death.

c) God’s presence is our anchor (Matthew 28:20):

Jesus promised to be with us always, to the end of the age.

d) His presence brings peace (Philippians 4:6-7):

The peace of God surpasses all understanding, even in trouble.

Biblical Example: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood firm in the fiery furnace because they knew God was with them (Daniel 3:23-25).

2. TRUST GOD’S TIMING AND PROCESS

Faith often requires waiting and enduring. God uses delays and detours to shape us and build our character.

a) God is never late (Habakkuk 2:3):

Though the vision tarries, it will surely come at the appointed time.

b) Waiting is part of spiritual growth (James 1:2-4):

Trials produce patience and spiritual maturity.

c) His delays are not denials (John 11:6):

Jesus delayed visiting Lazarus, yet it ended in greater glory.

d) God is working behind the scenes (Romans 8:28):

All things are working for your good, even when you can’t see it.

Biblical Example: Joseph endured years of delay, betrayal, and imprisonment, but God's process prepared him for greatness (Genesis 41:39-41).

3. SPEAK AND STAND ON GOD’S WORD

Faith speaks. What you say in the midst of challenges reveals what you truly believe. The Word of God is our foundation and weapon.

a) Declare God’s promises over your situation (2 Corinthians 4:13):

Faith speaks because it believes what God has said.

b) The Word is your sword in battle (Ephesians 6:17):

Use the Scriptures to counter the enemy’s lies.

c) Do not speak fear or doubt (Proverbs 18:21):

Life and death are in the power of the tongue.

d) Confession of faith strengthens your heart (Romans 10:17):

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

Biblical Example: David declared God’s power and defeated Goliath with words of faith before a stone was ever thrown (1 Samuel 17:45-47).

4. REFUSE TO QUIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLE

Faith doesn’t give up. Even when results are not immediate, real faith presses on, knowing that victory is certain in Christ.

a) Endurance is part of faith (Hebrews 10:35-36):

Do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

b) Don’t let fear make you turn back (Isaiah 41:10):

God commands us not to fear because He strengthens us.

c) Keep walking even when it’s hard (Galatians 6:9):

Do not be weary in doing good; you will reap if you don’t faint.

d) Stay focused on the promise (Philippians 3:13-14):

Forget what is behind and press toward your high calling.

Biblical Example: The woman with the issue of blood refused to give up after 12 years; her persistence led to her healing (Mark 5:25-34).

5. CELEBRATE YOUR VICTORY BEFORE IT MANIFESTS

Faith praises God even before the breakthrough comes. Praise is a powerful expression of trust and expectation.

a) Rejoice in the Lord always (Philippians 4:4):

Joy in God is not tied to circumstances.

b) Praise confuses the enemy (2 Chronicles 20:22):

Judah praised, and God set ambushes against their enemies.

c) Thanksgiving releases miracles (John 6:11):

Jesus gave thanks before multiplying the loaves.

d) Your praise is proof of your faith (Psalm 34:1):

Praising God continually shows you trust Him fully.
