Summary: This series focuses on crossing over obstacles, problems, situations, and the like which can impede our walk with God.

CROSSING OVER 3

Scripture: Mark 4:35-41 - “That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?" He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"

Introduction: All of us have had times in our lives when we look around and realize that there are things in our lives that we would rather leave behind. Now I

am not talking about people specifically, even though there may be people that we need to leave behind on our walk with God.

Thesis: All Christian need to “cross over” the past, trials, and pain.

Transition Statement: Tonight I want to continue to look at crossing over. But let’s start by looking at Jesus, and the wind and the waves.

I. CROSSING OVER

A.Imagine for a minute being the storm hat they were in.

1. Obviously they became very afraid

a. Maybe they wondered why they were out in the lake.

b. But remember, Jesus led them out there.

c. He knew the storm was coming – so what gives?

2. Nothing in your life escape His notice.

a. No detail too big or too small

b. “If the LORD delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm.” (Psalm 37:23)

c. Now remember, by this time the disci0ples had already seen miracles.

1) So why don’t they understand?

B. At least they realize Jesus is the Answer.

1. They will eventually call out to Him.

2. But not before they had done all that was in their own power

a. They tried to take care of the situation themselves.

3. One of the places we need to get to is to realize that we can’t clam the winds and the waves ourselves.

a. There is no power in us to do so.

1) We all must learn this lesson.

b. Addiction – we all have our own addictions.

1) Part of the addiction process is trying to live in our own power

c. It is about self-will.

4. Jesus stills the storm.

a. It is not just about power – it’s about Who He is.

b. It is a self-revelation of God’s nature.

1) Omnipotent

2) Omnipresence

3) Omniscient

4) Immutable

5) Eternal

II. CROSSING OVER PAIN, HURT, AND SHAME

A. All people have these three things.

1. It’s part of the sin legacy.

a. When Adam and Eve sinned – they left us a legacy.

b. It isn’t because you have sinned – we all have!

c. But it is part of our nature

2. Pain, hurt, and shame create tremendous storms in our lies.

a. It is the winds and the waves we face daily.

b. Part of the problem is whose voice you hear.

c. Satan wants you to remain a prisoner of pain, hurt, and shame.

B. You see the Man who stilled the winds and the Waves is with you now.

1. Pain, hurt, and shame need healing

a. The storms need to calm.

b. Realize that you can never be your own answer.

c. You don’t have the power to get over any of it.

2. You need to learn Who Jesus really is.

a. Part of the problem is trust.

b. You don’t trust Him enough yet.

c. Because you haven’t realized that He will calm the storm.

C. Let the light in

1. We hide our pain, hurt, and shame.

a. It is so subconscious that we do it naturally.

b. How do you go on if you can’t hide it?

2. It becomes a way of life.

a. We go on to hide it from God and ourselves.

b. This is why we need to learn Who God really is.

3. Shame says, “If you knew – you wouldn’t love me any more.”

a. So we do what Adam and Eve did – hide.

b. This is an attempt to hide in darkness.

c. We need to confess to God what we are hiding from Him.

4. God says, “I know and I love you anyway.”

a. Healing come when we let the light in.

Conclusion: If you only really knew how much self will there remained in you, you would be shattered. You are hiding pain, hurt, and shame thinking that no one knows. But God does, and God wants to help you cross over to the other side.
