A Demonstration of God’s Love

Luke 15:11-24

I. God’s Love Is a Seeking Love (v. 11-17)

A. It seeks Us in the Far Country

“..in that while we were sinners Christ died for us.” – Rom. 5:8

People God Found in the “Far Country”

• Adam & Eve hid in the Garden of Eden

• Moses was on the back side of a desert

• Jonah was in a fish’s belly

• Elijah was in a cave

B. It seeks us in our sin

1. Sin cannot out weigh God’s grace

2. Sin can be overcome by God’s love

C. It seeks us when we become empty

1. Empty from rebellion

2. Empty from self reliance

II. God’s Love is a Calling Love (v. 18-19)

A. It will call us to himself

“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent Me draws him..” – John 6:44

1. It is a specific call

2. It is an irresistible call (John 15:16)

B. It will call us to repentance (Acts 2:38-41)

1. Because God empowers us to repent (II Tim. 2:25)

2. Because repentance brings realization

3. Because repentance is necessary

C. It will call us to a recognition

1. A recognition of Christ’s Lordship

“…Make me like one of hired servants.” – v. 19b

2. A recognition of our greatest need

“I will arise a go to my father…” –v. 18a

III. God’s Love Is Unconditional (v. 20-24)

A. God’s love is unconditional in it’s desire

1. It will always see us first

“..but when he was a great way off, his father saw him..” – v. 20

2. It will always bring security

“..and had compassion and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him” – v. 20

B. God’s love is costly

1. His love cost Him fellowship with His Son

2. His love cost Him his Son’s life

3. His love bought our eternity
