2nd Lesson On How To Pray! (Hix)

Matthew 6:9-13-In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

The first four parts of this prayer, have to do with the one we are speaking too.

1-Our Father in heaven

2-Hallowed be Your name

3-Your kingdom come.

4-Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Hallowed-Definitions….Holy, respected or have reverence for, set apart!

God’s name is used in cuss words, and used a slang word.

To many times His name is not used in reverence, or respect, that is why it is so important for His children to reverence His name, to honor it, and pray that others will too!

Your Name-Are we bringing honor to His name with our life, with our attitudes, with our words and our deeds?

We have all known children, who have ruined a family’s name, just by their actions.

We don’t want to be those people who bring dishonor to name of Christ!

When you are making this request, you are asking that the name of Christ, be honored in your life and thru your life!

We want to make sure that what ever, we are doing, that we are bring honor and glory to the name of Jesus!

Your Kingdom Come-When we are asking this in a prayer, we are placing, or allowing God to be on the throne in our life.

We are recognizing that, it is where He belongs and we are given Him all access to the throne of our heart!

In other words, He has complete control of our life!

Your Kingdom…Not my kingdom, not my selfish agenda, not my selfish desires, but I want you to rule and reign in my life!

This prayer reminds us that there is another kingdom besides God's kingdom established in the world.

Before this kingdom can come into this world, we ought to pray that this kingdom may come in the Church.

Imagine a man who's out digging in a field - someone else's field - and he hears a clunk. He digs around a little bit more, and there really is something there. He puts down his mattock, picks up his spade, and clears away all the dirt. And what he sees is the top of a chest. He looks around, but there's nobody there. He starts to get excited. So he digs all round till he can open the lid. And when he does, he just about falls over backwards. It's got gold and silver and diamonds and rubies and emeralds and sapphires. This treasure will bring him immeasurable wealth. He covers it back up, races into town, places his house on the market, places his car on the market, puts his wife and kids on the market. He doesn't care what it takes: He's got to have that field, because he's got to have that treasure.

Do you know what that tells me? It tells me that when the Kingdom of God is our treasure it becomes an all-consuming passion.

Your Will be done On Earth As It Is In Heaven-Once again, we are asking God to take control, because we are bombarded by our own carnal desires, our own wants and wishes, and we can be controlled by them, when we add this to our prayer, we are admitting that God knows best, that His will is perfect!

In this prayer, We are asking, that those who don’t obey His laws, may be taught to obey them, and that those who do obey them, may obey them better.

There are two ways to submit to the will of God for a Christian.

1-Saying with our mouth, “Your Will Be Done.” but in our heart we saying, “God, your going to do what you want any way.” (That’s wrong way)

2-Saying with our mouth, “Your Will Be Done.” and with our heart and with our life, being proactive in accomplishing His will! (This is the right way)

God can accomplish His will without our help, but He wants our participation, in fulfilling His will being done, here on earth!

Bob Orr, says, “There is a prerequisite for knowing the will of God; and it's this - being willing to do it … God does not say to you, "I'll show you My will and then I'd like you to decide if you'd like to do it."

He does not reveal His will so that you can speculate on it, so that you can think about it, or so you can take it to a church board meeting and vote on it.
