INTRODUCTION:
The God we serve is not indifferent to the oppression, accusations, and threats of our enemies. In Scripture, we see countless instances where God arises not only to deliver His people but also to bring shame and utter defeat to those who plot against them. The Bible does not leave us in doubt that God is a Man of war (Exodus 15:3), and one of His divine strategies is to turn the schemes of the wicked upon their own heads.
To disgrace the enemy means to expose and overthrow their plans in such a way that they are publicly humiliated and rendered powerless. This is a theme that runs through both the Old and New Testaments—God turning the proud into mockery, confusing evil conspiracies, and causing His people to triumph in the face of persecution. This kind of divine action not only defends the righteous but also glorifies the name of the Lord.
This Bible study is a faith-building reminder that our God is not passive in spiritual warfare. When we walk uprightly and trust in Him, He takes it upon Himself to disgrace the enemy for our sake. This should stir holy confidence in us and inspire unwavering trust in God's power to bring justice, vindication, and victory.
1. GOD DISGRACES THE ENEMY BY TURNING THEIR PLANS AGAINST THEM
When the wicked plot evil, God turns their schemes into instruments of their own downfall.
a) God Sees and Foils Every Evil Plot
No secret counsel of darkness escapes the eyes of God (Job 5:12). He frustrates the devices of the crafty so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.
b) Divine Overturning of Human Strategies
God overturns the wisdom of the wise and causes their understanding to fail (Isaiah 44:25). He intercepts evil plans before they manifest.
c) Enemies Fall Into Their Own Traps
According to Psalm 7:15-16, those who dig a pit for the righteous fall into it themselves. God ensures poetic justice.
d) The Righteous Are Delivered in the Day of Evil
Proverbs 11:8 declares that the righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked comes in their stead.
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE:
Haman in the book of Esther (Esther 7:9-10) plotted to destroy Mordecai and the Jews, but God overturned the plan. Haman was hanged on the very gallows he prepared for Mordecai. That is divine disgrace.
2. GOD DISGRACES THE ENEMY BY FIGHTING UNSEEN BATTLES
Many victories are won in the realm of the spirit before they manifest physically.
a) God Works Behind the Scenes
While men sleep, God sends angels to battle on their behalf (Psalm 121:4). He never slumbers nor sleeps.
b) He Dispatches Angelic Armies to Defend His People
In 2 Kings 6:17, Elisha’s servant saw horses and chariots of fire all around them. God’s invisible army was already in position.
c) The Enemy is Confused and Defeated Without Physical Combat
In 2 Chronicles 20:22-24, God set ambushes against the enemies of Judah. They destroyed one another while Israel worshipped.
d) God’s Glory Rises as a Defence in the Night Season
Isaiah 4:5-6 shows God as a covering and defence—especially in times of adversity and darkness.
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE:
When King Hezekiah prayed concerning the threat from Sennacherib, God sent an angel in the night who killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers (2 Kings 19:35). That disgrace ended the war instantly.
3. GOD DISGRACES THE ENEMY BY VINDICATING HIS PEOPLE
God lifts up the heads of His children while bringing shame to their accusers.
a) God Is the Righteous Judge
Psalm 75:7 says God is the Judge—He puts down one and sets up another. Vindication is His divine prerogative.
b) He Prepares a Table in the Presence of Enemies
According to Psalm 23:5, God causes His children to flourish where the enemy hoped they would fail.
c) God Turns Mockery Into Honour
Isaiah 61:7 says, “For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion.”
d) The Mouth of the Wicked is Silenced
Psalm 107:42 says, “The righteous shall see it and rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.”
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE:
Daniel was falsely accused and thrown into the lions’ den, but God vindicated him. The accusers who plotted his downfall were themselves cast into the den (Daniel 6:24). God turned disgrace to honour for Daniel.
4. GOD DISGRACES THE ENEMY THROUGH RESURRECTION AND RESTORATION
Even when the enemy thinks he has won, God can reverse the situation to bring glory to Himself.
a) God Has the Final Say Over Death and Defeat
Revelation 1:18 shows Jesus holding the keys of death and hell. The enemy cannot seal the fate of the righteous.
