Children In The Temple Lesson 26 Series

A. WHEN JESUS COMES IN!

1. Palm Sunday. After Jesus rode triumphantly into Jerusalem (Mark 11:1-11).

2. No fruit. After Jesus cursed the fig tree (Mark 11:12-14).

3. After Jesus examines the temple. “Jesus entered . . . into the temple, and when He looked around” (Mark 11:11).

a. What does Jesus see when He enters your temple?

b. What does Jesus think when He examines your temple?

c. What does Jesus do when He enters your temple?

4. Cleansed. “Jesus entered . . . the temple and began to cast out . . . sold . . . bought . . . overthrew tables of the money changers . . . sold doves . . . not permitted . . . men to carry any vessel into the temple” (Mark 11:15-16).

5. Relationship with God. What is the purpose of the temple? “My house shall be called a house of prayer” (Matt. 21:13, compare Isaiah 57:6).

6. Who comes to examine the clean temple?” The needy come in. “The blind and lame came to Him in the temple” (Matt. 21:14).

7. What did they seek in the temple? “They came to Him” (Matt. 21:14).

8. Who didn’t want a clean temple or worship? The religious people. “The chief priest and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did” (Matt. 21:15).

9. What was their first problem? They thought the temple belonged to them. “Temple of God” (v. 12). Second problem. Didn’t want worship. They were indignant. “Do you hear what these children are singing?” (Matt. 15:16). Third problem, didn’t want Jesus in the temple. Not just against His popularity, but against calling Him Messiah.

10. What did organized religion lack? Purity and praise.

11. Why did Jesus cleanse the temple?

a. Not to provoke a political revolution.

b. Spiritual conviction (insight).

c. Symbolic, God wants His temple cleaned.

B. WHAT WERE THE CHILDREN DOING? WORSHIP

1. Recognizing Jesus. “Son of David” (Matt. 21:15).

2. Repeating the Palm Sunday crowd. “Hosanna to the Son of David” (v. 9)

3. Hosanna is a prayer. “Save now” i.e., a transliteration.

4. Jesus answered, “You have taught children and infants to give you praise” (Matt. 21:16, NLT).

a. The “you” is prediction of Jesus.

b. Both levels of babies.

c. Praise, the highest worship, i.e., recognizing what God can and has done, and acknowledging it.

C. PRINCIPLES

1. Empty religion opposes Jesus with argument and challenges.

2. Cleaning is foundational to all God does in your life.

3. Presence, Jesus changes everything when He comes in.

4. Miracles after cleansing and Jesus comes in.

5. Recognize what Jesus will do when He comes in.

6. Praise your response when Jesus comes in.

7. Worship focuses on Jesus.

8. Young can praise God.

9. Simple prayer is enough; you don’t have to be smart or full of knowledge to worship God.

10. Jesus teaches worship to His own. If a person doesn’t worship what does that mean?

If you have never really accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, would you do it right now? Do not delay or put it off. If you would like to receive Christ by faith, pray this simple prayer in your heart:

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins on the cross, and rose again the third day. I repent of my sins. By faith I receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior. You promised to save me, and I believe You, because You are God and cannot lie. I believe right now that the Lord Jesus is my personal Savior, and that all my sins are forgiven through His precious blood. I thank You, dear Lord, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
