HOW TO LIVE A LIFE OF IMPACT

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Matthew 5:14–16

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

INTRODUCTION:

Living a life of impact means living beyond self. It means your existence makes a difference in the lives of others and reflects the glory of God. A truly impactful life inspires, uplifts, and draws people closer to Christ. God never created us to merely exist; He designed us to influence our world positively.

Every believer is a carrier of light and purpose. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” This implies that we are meant to shine, not hide. We are meant to influence our generation, not blend into the background. Whether through our words, actions, or service, we are called to make a mark that cannot be erased.

An impactful life is not measured by how much we accumulate, but by how much we contribute to God’s kingdom and to the lives of others. The pursuit of such a life requires intention, dedication, and alignment with divine purpose. This study will reveal key principles that help us live meaningfully and make lasting impact.

1. DISCOVER AND FULFIL YOUR PURPOSE

You cannot impact your world without understanding why you are here.

a) Purpose gives direction and meaning.

When you know your purpose, life becomes focused and impactful (Jeremiah 1:5).

b) God is the author of every true purpose.

Only in God can your real assignment be revealed (Proverbs 19:21).

c) Purpose-driven living produces fulfilment.

People of purpose live fulfilled and leave legacies (Acts 13:36).

d) When you pursue purpose, you naturally bless others.

Purpose leads to service and fruitfulness (John 15:16).

Biblical Example: Joseph discovered his divine purpose and used it to save nations (Genesis 50:20).

2. DEVELOP GODLY CHARACTER

Your impact will only last if your character is rooted in Christ.

a) Character is the foundation of lasting influence.

Gifts may open doors, but character sustains them (Proverbs 22:1).

b) Integrity commands respect and trust.

People follow those who live what they preach (Titus 2:7–8).

c) God values character above charisma.

A holy life is a powerful testimony (1 Peter 1:15–16).

d) Your character reflects your relationship with Christ.

The fruit of the Spirit must be evident (Galatians 5:22–23).

Biblical Example: Daniel’s excellent spirit and integrity set him apart (Daniel 6:3–4).

3. SERVE OTHERS WITH LOVE AND COMPASSION

Impactful lives are lived in service to others.

a) Service is the pathway to greatness.

Jesus taught that the greatest must serve (Matthew 23:11).

b) Love is the fuel for genuine service.

Without love, service becomes empty ritual (1 Corinthians 13:3).

c) Serving others glorifies God.

Good works should point people to the Father (Matthew 5:16).

d) Compassion moves us to act beyond comfort.

A heart of compassion reflects Christ’s heart (Mark 6:34).

Biblical Example: Dorcas made impact through acts of kindness and service (Acts 9:36–39).

4. MAXIMISE YOUR GIFTS AND RESOURCES

God has invested gifts in you to be used for His glory.

a) Every gift is given for impact.

Your talents are meant to edify and bless others (1 Peter 4:10).

b) Hiding your gifts is dishonouring to God.

Like the unprofitable servant, unused talents displease God (Matthew 25:24–30).

c) Excellence enhances the reach of your impact.

Do all things well to reflect God’s nature (Colossians 3:23).

d) Sharpen and grow your gifts continually.

Growth increases your effectiveness and relevance (2 Timothy 1:6).

Biblical Example: Paul used his knowledge, passion, and calling to impact the world (2 Timothy 4:7).

5. BE LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Spirit empowers believers to live purposefully and powerfully.

a) The Holy Spirit gives divine direction.

He guides us into truth and purpose (John 16:13).

b) True impact flows from spiritual empowerment.

Without the Spirit, we lack the power to influence deeply (Acts 1:8).

c) The Spirit helps us bear eternal fruit.

Spiritual impact is lasting and God-glorifying (Galatians 5:22).

d) The Spirit positions us for kingdom exploits.

He enables us to do beyond natural ability (Zechariah 4:6).

Biblical Example: Peter became a bold and powerful witness after being filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:14–41).

CONCLUSION:

Living a life of impact requires purpose, character, love, service, and spiritual sensitivity. It’s a life that glorifies God and transforms others. You are not here by accident—God has placed greatness in you to shine your light in this world.
