Romans 11:25-36 Hope of Israel
This passage has an explicit understanding of the salvation of Israel and the Gentiles. It reveals another important message that is the Call and Gifts are irrevocable. Therefore, all have to glorify the triune God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Romans 11:25-31 Mystery of Salvation
The mystery of salvation is described in this passage. The mystery is that Israel has hardened their heart so that God could fill the required numbers from the Gentiles. However, Israel will be saved as per prophetic declarations of Isaiah 59:20-21, 27:9, and Jeremiah 31:33-34. The deliverer or redeemer would come, and he would save them from all their ungodliness. We know that the rejection of Christ is ungodliness. The despise of the salvation in Christ is ungodliness. Jesus Christ has come into this world to annihilate that wickedness and ungodliness. The non-conformity with Christ and his blessings is also ungodliness. However, God would remember his covenant and take away all their sins.
Romans 11:28-32 Irrevocable Call and Gifts
Paul further explains that Israel was loved because of the Patriarchs and that love endures forever and ever. The promise of God to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob can’t be ignored or overruled. He continued to bless them. The real blessing is coming into the Kingdom of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The call and gifts are irrevocable. God never changes himself, therefore his qualities, and characters are not changed. Thus, Paul affirms that the Call and Gifts are irrevocable forever. Once bestowed on anyone is bestowed forever in the NT period of Grace. We could understand from our experiences. We have seen how some of the pastors, prophetic ministries, and evangelists are doing things of their desires and continued to indulge in their self-advancement and establishments yet they are successful because their call and gifts are irrevocable. Further, we can understand that once you learn some skills, they are with you till you die. As you keep doing and performing, you feel like doing it blindfolded. But God expects us to be accountable for what we are possessed of.
Romans 11:33-36 Doxology
The depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God is beyond measure and cognizant of mere human wisdom and knowledge. The judgment of God is unsearchable, the dealings of God and the disciplines he has meted out with us are unsearchable. His paths are beyond tracing out. Everyone who is blessed by God can tell this truth from experience. Our paths which were ordered and designed by God are not traceable. We never mapped it and we can’t but he mapped it for each one of us. He never allows us the way we want to go but he leads the way which he thinks is suitable, applicable, and manageable for us. He gives and directs us. Because he loved us. Otherwise, he could allow us to dash. How true it is that God is the great counselor and Almighty. None of us are having any moral authority over God to question him. Then Paul ends this DOXOLOGY by expressing the triune formula of “FROM HIM THROUGH HIM AND TO HIM BE THE GLORY.”
Discussion:
1. Gifts and Calls are irrevocable
2. Share your testimony of the blessings you received.
