SERMON TITLE: “Deliver Us From Evil: The Cry of a Victorious Believer”
Main Text: Matthew 6:13 — “…but deliver us from evil.”
Preacher: Rev. (Prophet) Rudolf E. Y. Mensah
INTRODUCTION
Every line of the Lord’s Prayer is a revelation. It is not a poem. It is not a recital.
It is a pattern for victory—a divine template given by Jesus Himself.
When Jesus reached the line “deliver us from evil,” He wasn’t inserting fear.
He was unlocking spiritual intelligence for every believer who will operate in dominion.
This phrase tells you two unshakable truths:
1. Evil is real.
2. Deliverance is available. And God wants you free.
The word “deliver” in Greek is ???µa? (rhuomai) — meaning:
to rescue by force,
to snatch away from danger,
to draw one to Himself.
In other words, deliverance is God pulling you out of a pit and pulling you into His embrace.
And the word “evil” is p?????? (ponerou) — meaning:
the evil one,
harmful circumstances,
wicked schemes,
demonic influence,
moral corruption,
every assignment of darkness designed to frustrate destiny.
So when we pray “deliver us from evil,” we are not praying survival prayers…
We are praying destiny-protection prayers.
We are praying inheritance prayers.
We are praying victory prayers.
MAIN BODY
1. JESUS ACKNOWLEDGES THE REALITY OF EVIL
If Jesus taught us to pray it, it means:
There are seasons when evil surrounds the righteous.
There are forces that fight the anointing.
There are conspiracies, traps, delays, and satanic strategies that rise simply because of your calling and assignment.
You are not attacked because you are weak.
You are attacked because you carry something precious.
Evil is not just demons.
Evil is also:
Wrong opportunities
Wrong relationships
Wrong doors that look attractive but lead to bondage
Wrong desires
Wrong decisions
Wrong environments
Sometimes evil is the next offer you receive that looks good but is not God.
2. DELIVERANCE IS A DIVINE HERITAGE
God did not design a believer to survive.
He designed a believer to walk in constant deliverance.
Psalm 34:19 — “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.”
Deliverance is not an emergency intervention.
It is a covenant program.
When God delivers you, He doesn’t only remove the danger—
He removes the fear, the shame, the guilt, and the memory.
Deliverance is God restoring your spiritual atmosphere.
3. WHAT JESUS REVEALS ABOUT DELIVERANCE
A. Deliverance is God’s response to destiny.
The moment your destiny becomes active, evil becomes aggressive.
B. Deliverance is not only defensive, it is offensive.
God removes evil, but He also frustrates the evil planner.
C. Deliverance is daily.
Notice the Lord’s Prayer is a daily pattern.
Which means evil assigns itself daily—but grace delivers you daily.
4. THE FIVE DIMENSIONS OF EVIL GOD DELIVERS US FROM
(i) Deliverance from the Evil One — Satan’s personality
Every child of God becomes a target of the adversary.
But you are also a target of divine preservation.
(ii) Deliverance from Evil People — human agents
Not everyone smiling is safe.
Not every compliment is pure.
Not every partner is sent by God.
(iii) Deliverance from Evil Times — seasons engineered by darkness
There are periods when everything fights you: health, finances, mind, strength.
But God will not leave you there.
(iv) Deliverance from Evil Patterns — generational cycles
Repeated failures, repeated sickness, repeated attacks…
The Lord’s Prayer gives you the authority to break the cycle.
(v) Deliverance from Evil Choices — decisions that sabotage destiny
Sometimes the most dangerous demon is a wrong decision.
So Jesus adds: “Deliver us from evil.”
Meaning: “Lord, protect me from choices that look right but are wrong.”
5. HOW GOD DELIVERS A MAN
(i) By Revelation
What God reveals, He rescues.
Sometimes one sermon, one scripture, one dream breaks the chain.
(ii) By Discernment
God lets you feel the danger before it manifests.
Discernment is deliverance at the thought level.
(iii) By Divine Interruption
Sometimes God blocks a door not to punish you but to protect you.
Rejection can be deliverance.
(iv) By Angelic Intervention
Psalm 91:11 — “He shall give His angels charge over you.”
(v) By the Blood of Jesus
Every blood-washed believer has a deliverance mark on them.
The enemy cannot legally prevail.
CONCLUSION
When Jesus said “deliver us from evil,”
He was not teaching us to fear darkness.
He was teaching us to exercise dominion in prayer.
This is not a helpless cry.
It is a victory declaration.
Lift your voice and declare:
“Father, in the name of Jesus, deliver me from every evil — present, future, seen, unseen, planned, imagined, orchestrated, or whispered. Pull me from every pit and plant me in Your will. Amen!”
Your victory is secured.
Your destiny is protected.
Your path is preserved.
Your tomorrow is insulated.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
