Summary: This is an outline of a devotion I gave on angels. It could be developed into a full sermon.
Seven Facts About Angels
Less is said in the Bible about the character of unfallen angels than about their activities, but still some aspects of their character are evident:
1. Angels are beings, with intelligence, emotions and will.
• intelligence —They know and communicate some of God's plans (Revelation 17) – but they have limitations (Matthew 24:36).
• emotions — They rejoice when sinners repent (Luke 15:10). They worship (Revelation 5:11-12). The birth of Jesus (Luke 2:10-14)
• will — It seems that all angels had freewill to choose to sin against God. (2 Peter 2:4)
2. Angels have the same form as humans. (Hebrews 13:2; John 20:12 & Luke 24:4-5)
3. Angels are not sexual beings and do not have offspring. (Matthew 22:30).
4. Angels cannot die (Luke 20:34-36).
5. Angels have great power (2 Kings 19:35; Daniel 6:22).
6. Angels are holy and the elect of God (Mark 8:38; 1 Timothy 5:21).
7. Angels are not to be worshipped (Revelation 22:8-9).
Why study angels?
It provides insight into God’s created order and shows us a beautiful example of the angels utter obedience and devotion to God.
Psalm 103:19-21 The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all. Bless the LORD, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word! Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will.
