Summary: GOD'S ETERNAL PLAN
2 SAMUEL
OBSERVATION:
SECOND SAMUEL IS THE STORY OF DAVID’S FORTY YEAR REIGN AS KING OF ISRAEL. IT SPEAKS TO HIS MORAL FAILURE AND RESULTING CONSEQUENCES PARTICULARLY AS IT RELATES TO HIS SON ABSALOM. ABSALOM WAS THE THIRD SON OF KING DAVID BY HIS WIFE MAACAH.
INTERPRETATION:
READ 2 SAMUEL 19:4
POINTS TO PONDER:
IN SPITE OF DAVID’S SINS OF ADULTERY, MURDER AND DECEIT, DAVID REMAINS A MAN SEEKING THE HEART OF GOD. GOD CHOSE HIM IN THE GENEALOGY OF JESUS CHRIST.
THE RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS SON ABSALOM HAD DETERIORATED. HIS MINDSET WAS TO KILL HIS FATHER AND RULE AS KING. FORTUNATELY, GOD INTERVENED AND SPOILED HIS PLAN.
PRIDE USUALLY GOES BEFORE A FALL. (PROVERBS 16:18) PRIDE GOES BEFORE DESTRUCTION AND A HAUGHTY SPIRIT BEFORE A FALL.
GOD INTERVENED AND SPOILED ABSALOM’S PLAN TO OVERTHROW DAVID’S KINGSHIP.
THE ABSALOM SPIRIT STILL EXISTS: IT IS SELF-EXALTATION.
APPLICATION:
NO ABSALOMS IN THE WORLD CAN THWART GOD’S ETERNAL PLANS!
