THE LION OF PROPHECY & HISTORY

“You’re a lion’s cub, Judah, home fresh from the kill, my son. Look at him, crouched like a lion, king of beasts; who dares mess with him? 10 The scepter shall not leave Judah; he’ll keep a firm grip on the command staff; Until the ultimate ruler comes and the nations obey him.” Genesis 49: 9-10 The Message

“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.” Micah 5:2 NIV

“You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." Luke 1:31-33 NIV

“Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals." Revelation 5:5 NIV

THE BEARING OF A LION

(How Aslan Reminds Us of Jesus Christ)

"There are three things that are stately in their stride, four that move with stately bearing: 30 a lion, mighty among beasts, who retreats before nothing; Proverbs 30:29-30 NIV

1. HIS NAME IS LIKE A SWEET FRAGRENCE –

“Perhaps it has sometimes happened to you in a dream … it has some enormous meaning - either a terrifying one which turns the whole dream into a nightmare or else a lovely meaning too lovely to put into words, which makes the dream so beautiful that you remember it all your life and are always wishing you could get into that dream again.” Narrator explaining the effect that the name of Aslan has on people who hear it the first time. LWW, page 141

“At the name of Aslan each one of the children felt something jump in its inside. Edmund felt a sensation of mysterious horror. Peter felt suddenly brave and adventurous. Susan felt as if some delicious smell or some delightful strain of music had just floated by her. And Lucy got the feeling you have when you wake up in the morning and realize that it is the beginning of the holidays or the beginning of summer.” LWW, page 141

“But now that Aslan is on the move -” said the Beaver. “for once again that strange feeling – like the first signs of spring, like good news – had come over them.” LWW, pg. 146

“God uses us to make the knowledge about Christ spread everywhere like a sweet fragrance.” 2 Corinthians 2:14 TEV

“Now wherever we go he uses us to tell others about the Lord and to spread the Good News like a sweet perfume.” 2 Corinthians 2:14 NLT

“the very mention of your name is like spreading perfume.” Song of Solomon 1:3 CEV

2. HIS COMING BANISHES WINTER –

“Wrong will be made right, when Aslan comes in sight, At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more, When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death, And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.” LWW, pg. 146

Mr. Beaver to the children when he saw Father Christmas, “Come on! Come and see! This is a nasty knock for the Witch! It looks as if her power is already crumbling.” LWW, Page 159

Father Christmas to the children, “I’ve come at last,” said he. “She has kept me out for a long time, but I have got in at last. Aslan is on the move. The Witch’s magic is weakening.” LWW, page 159

“Then with a roar that shook all Narnia from the Western lamppost to the shores of the Eastern sea the great beast flung himself upon the White Witch. Lucy saw her face lifted towards him for one second with an expression of terror and amazement.”

“Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.” John 12:31 NIV
