Let’s start with some basic questions. We will then break them down and see what the bible says about them.

3. How do we go and make disciples?

Lets start off with what is the great commission? In the book of Mathew chapter 28 verse 16 – 20 it states; 16 After this, the 11 disciples went to Galilee. They went to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they arrived at the place, they saw Jesus. Then they went down on their knees and they worshipped him. But some of the disciples were not sure that it really was Jesus. 18 Jesus went near to them and he said to them, ‘God has given me authority over everyone and everything. I have all authority in heaven and in this world. 19 So, you must go to people in every country of the world. Teach them how to become my disciples. Baptize them by the authority of God the Father, his Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach them to obey everything that I have taught you. You can be sure that I will be with you always. I will be with you until the end of time.’

What does the great commission mean? Well it is easy to say it means you need to go and make disciples. However there is a little more to it. What I mean is yes we are supposed to go and make disciples, but we are also supposed to teach them how to be a disciple. Then we are supposed to baptize them and teach them to obey what jesus taught his disciples.

So how do we go and make disciples? We learned yesterday that a disciple in the bible is a follower of Jesus. For that reason we are to go and share the good news about Jesus and how he has died for our sins. Also we are to share how Jesus rose from the grave and then ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us. What to do? What to do? Well could we just go stand on the corner at the park and yell “you need Jesus”! sure that is one way and more than likely it will actually turn people away. So how do we share our message? We live it! When we live like Jesus directed us to live we will make others want what we have. We should be caring, kind, helpful, and Christlike. We should not be mean, we should not Bully others, we should not use language that we know we shouldn’t. additionally we can share our story with our friends. Our story is whatever God has done in our life.

So when we look at the great commission we find it is our responsibility to follow what the bible says. We must listen to those in authority. We must honor our parents. We must do everything we can to not hurt others.
