Summary: God calls us men to be men like Jesus. He doens’t call us to be action heroes full of attitude and anger. He calls us to answer the Question who do you say that I am and what difference does it make in our lives.

Intro: Who do people say that I am? That is the most purposeful question that you will ever be asked in your life. Some people say Jesus was a good teacher, a radical zealot, a miracle worker, a relgion starter.

But Jesus never allows us to stay with the purposeful answer he always makes it personal. It is never enough to repeat what other people say about Jesus. You must answer the question for yourself. Jesus isn’t just purposeful He is personal. So who do you say that He is?

If you say that He is The Christ the Son of the Living God then he stands as the King of Kings waiting for you allegiance. He stands as your brother waiting for you to walk with Him. He stands as your sheperd waiting for you to follow and listen to HIs voice.

He has created us to be zealous for good works. What Jesus wants our encounter with Him to do is Manifest the Attributes and Character of Our Holy God. He wants us to be Macho. But the world has twisted macho to mean something God never meant for men to be.

I. Maturing in your relationship with Christ

Luke 2:52 – Jesus Grew

1 Peter 2.1-3 Therefore – Because you have been born again. (Have you) Have you had that personal dealing in your own spirit and mind of who Jesus is?

A) The birth – No birth no growth

B) The growth

1) Do away with (attitudes) works of flesh – lay aside the clothes of the old life don’t belong on a newborn. (The attitudes of the old life are a road block to God’s life of abundance)

2) Desire (present grace gift of desire to have Christ live life through you) The nature we feed the most is the nature that wins.

3) Dependence (remember goodness of God)

The spiritual giants from the past much like us take little steps to become followers of a Big God. The giants of the faith appear that way because they had no time for childish pursuits. They were children of God who heard His call to come closer and grow nearer.

Rabbi Abraham Heschel, “Faith like Job’s cannot be shaken because it is the result of having been shaken."

II .Available for God

A) To what God wants to teach us

Life is simple living is not

B) To where God wants to take us

Conformity to Christ. Advancement of God’s kingdom

III. Christ centered courage

Jesus is not a nice addition to our habits and hang outs

IV. Holy

Separate – Set apart for God’s purposes different from the world

1) Its way of thinking

2) Its way of making decisions

3) Its way of loving

To abound in Holiness we must abide in the presence of Chirst. Holiness is distinctness that comes from the Holy Spirit placing His distinctive character in us.

V. Our Legacy

If you were to die right now what would you leave behind? Would it be ripples in the stream of eternity that would affect your family, friends, co-workers, enemies toward a relationship with Jesus Christ? Or would it be just a tombstone with letters etched but life forgotten?

God wants to take each of us as men and make us Macho.

Louis Pasteur, the pioneer of immunology, lived at a time when thousands of people died each year of rabies. Pasteur had worked for years on a vaccine. Just as he was about to begin experimenting on himself, a 9-year-old, Joseph Meister, was bitten by a rabid dog. The boy’s mother begged Pasteur to experiment on her son. Pasteur injected Joseph for ten days and the boy lived.

Decades later, of all the things Pasteur could have etched on his headstone, he asked for three words: Joseph Meister Lived.

Our greatest legacy will be those who live eternally because of our efforts.

Conclusion: Who is your Joseph Meister? What area or areas is God calling you to mature in? Are you Macho? Are you manifesting the character and attitude of a holy God? God created you in Christ Jesus to be Macho don’t live below you calling as a new creature in God’s Kingcdom.
