Summary: As parents, we have a sacred responsibility to raise our children in a way that pleases God. And as we seek to do so, we can find encouragement and guidance in God's Word.

I want to talk to you about a crucial topic that affects us all is parenting. The Bible teaches us that as parents, we have a sacred responsibility to raise our children in the ways of the Lord. But what does that mean, exactly? What does it look like to be a godly parent in a world that often values the opposite?

In 1 Corinthians 3:18-20, Paul warns us that the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As parents, we must not conform to the patterns of this world but instead be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Worldly parents focus on temporal success and happiness, but godly parents prioritize eternal values and godliness.

Worldly parents may prioritize their children's academic achievements, athletic prowess, or popularity, but godly parents prioritize their children's spiritual growth and character development. They teach their children to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Worldly parents may compromise their values to win their children's approval or avoid conflict, but godly parents lovingly discipline and guide their children in the truth, even when it's hard. They remember that their role is not to be their child's friend but to be their spiritual leader and guide.

As we seek to raise our children in a world that often opposes God's ways, let us remember that we are not alone. We have the power of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of God's Word to guide us. May we strive to be godly parents who raise up the next generation to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ.

As Christians, we are called to raise our children in the ways of the Lord, but when we prioritize the values of this world above God's values, we put our children's spiritual lives in danger.

In Proverbs 14:12, Solomon warns us that "there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." Worldly parents may think they are doing what's best for their children, but they are unwittingly leading them down a path of destruction.

Worldly parents value success and achievement above all else, pushing their children to excel in academics, sports, or the arts. But in doing so, they may neglect their children's spiritual development, leaving them vulnerable to the temptations and pitfalls of this world. Worldly parents may also prioritize their children's happiness above all else, giving them everything they want and shielding them from every discomfort or hardship. But in doing so, they may deprive their children of the opportunity to develop resilience, perseverance, and a strong faith in God.

The dangers of worldly parents are many. They may produce children who are self-centred, entitled, and unprepared for the challenges of life. They may lead their children to believe that happiness and fulfilment come from material possessions or temporary highs, rather than from a deep relationship with God.

But as Christians, we have a different standard. We are called to raise our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, to teach them to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to serve others with humility and compassion.

In Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Moses reminds the Israelites to teach God's commands to their children, talking about them when they sit at home, walk along the road, lie down, and get up. God's Word is to be a central part of our lives and our parenting.

Godly parents are pleasing to God when they:

• Teach their children to love and obey God's Word

• Model a life of faith, humility, and compassion

• Pray with and for their children, demonstrating dependence on God

• Discipline and guide their children in love, not provoking them to anger

• Encourage their children to serve others and live with a kingdom perspective

As godly parents, we are not perfect, but we seek to be intentional and consistent in our faith. We know that our children are a blessing from God and a sacred trust. We want to raise them to be arrows for God's kingdom, not conformed to this world but transformed by God's Spirit.

In Psalm 127:3-5, we read that children are a heritage from the Lord, like arrows in the hands of a warrior. Godly parents aim their children at the target of God's glory, equipping them to make a difference in the world for Christ.

May we be encouraged as parents to press on in our calling, knowing that God is with us and empowers us. May our homes be places of grace, love, and spiritual growth, where our children can flourish and become all God wants them to be.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father , give us wisdom and strength to be godly parents who please you. Help us raise our children in your ways, that they may be a blessing to others and a testimony to your love. Amen.
