So far in our study of 1Peter we have examined the fact that

Christians are...CONSIDERED ALIEN(1:1-2)...

We’ve discovered...WHAT’s So GREAT About GOD—(1:3-12)

We’ve also found the importance of LOVING THE BRETHREN(1:22—2:12).

We have seen how those truths play into the overall scheme of Submission...the give-&-take of relationships within CHRISTIAN GOVERNANCE....

We began by examining the relationship of CHRISTIAN GOVERNANCE in relation to GOVERNMENT(1Peter 2:13-17).

That was followed with the relationship of CHRISTIAN GOVERNANCE in relation to WORK(1Peter 2:18-25).

Today we will continue by looking at CHRISTIAN GOVERNANCE in relation to MARRIAGE—

Governance by God in Marriage.

Guidance—

Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it. From a distance, each looks like every other horse.

But if one stops the car, or is walking by, one will notice something quite amazing.

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing.

Listening, one will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, one will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to her bridle is a small bell. It lets her blind friend know where she is, so he can follow her.

As one stands & watches these two friends, one sees how she is always checking on him, & that he will listen for her bell & then slowly walk to where she is, trusting that she will not lead him astray. Led faithfully.

The blind horse needed guidance from the seeing one.

We all need to be guided by God Himself & by God working thru others.

Peter pressed & confirmed the crucial role of Christian governance regarding Christian marriage.

Christian governance is foundational in/to Christian marriage.

A Submissive Attitude for WIVES(:1-6)

:1—“Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives,”

:2—“when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear.”

:3—“Do not let your adornment be merely outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel--“

:4—“rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle & quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”

:5—“For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands,”

:6—“as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good & are not afraid with any terror.”

Disclaimer:

For those of you who claim Christ as your Savior & Lord, who may have a favorable pre-disposition toward so-called ‘women’s liberation’ or ‘women’s equality’[dated 70’s talk], I ask you to please consider exactly what you are desirous of being ‘liberated’ from! May I caution you against being desirous of being liberated from being a woman?! You do not want or need to be a man!...You want & need respect in the world(including the church).

The political & worldly manifestations of ‘women’s liberation/equality’ are severely perverted & tainted with sin, so please do not allow yourself to side with political factions. If you do, then your witness for Christ will be shattered. Because God’s design is perverted & dismissed by those eclectic political bodies.

“Wives” are encouraged toward certain postures regarding their “own husband.” Godly “submission” toward a “husband” is to be exemplified on the part of the “wife.”

A very practical reason for such God-ordained “submission” is so that the “husband(s)” who are currently not obedient to God’s word, “may be won” to Jesus. Such “winning” to the Lord of an unconvinced “husband” occurs “without a word.”

A godly wife’s/woman’s “conduct” that “wins” her own “husband,” as well as others to Christ, is a “conduct” that is ordered in Christ. Her life is literally redirected by means of her faithfully allowing Jesus to work in her personal life. Her Christian decisions are different from her former worldly & fleshly decisions, as her belief system has been overhauled completely.
