Summary: Delayed obedience can be a costly mistake.

Today we are continuing with the 2nd part of our series entitled "Bad Timing Can Cost You." (Show the Amertrade Bad Timing commercial).

Our background passage today comes from Luke chapter 9.

Luke 9:59-60 (CEV)

Jesus told someone else to come with him. But the man said, “Lord, let me wait until I bury my father.”

Jesus answered, “Let the dead take care of the dead, while you go and tell about God’s kingdom.”

Each of us has an invitation to join Jesus. God is at work all around us and He seeks to involve us in His work – John 12:26

John 12:26 (NLT)

All those who want to be my disciples must come and follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And if they follow me, the Father will honor them.

There is plenty of work to be done – Luke 10:2

Luke 10:2 (NLT)

These were his instructions to them, “The harvest is so great, but the workers are so few. Pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest, and ask him to send out more workers for his fields.

There will always be a reason/excuse. Excuses are the things that prevent your obedient, immediate response to God’s invitation. Omission is disobedience

Disobedience is SIN – 1 John 2:4-5

1 John 2:4-5 (CEV)

But if we claim to know him and don’t obey him, we are lying and the truth isn’t in our hearts. We truly love God only when we obey him as we should, and then we know that we belong to him.

Keeping First Things First. The issue is Lordship of your life. The people and things that control your life have lordship. Does Jesus get first dibs?

When Jesus is Lord, His heart becomes your heart, His will becomes your will.

There Is Kingdom Work To Be Done. God is passionate about reaching people – 2 Peter 3:9

2 Peter 3:9 (CEV)

The Lord isn’t slow about keeping his promises, as some people think he is. In fact, God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost.

He wants to use you to do it – Acts 1:8

Acts 1:8 (CEV)

But the Holy Spirit will come upon you and give you power. Then you will tell everyone about me in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria, and everywhere in the world.
