Summary: Do Not Worry

What you fear the most is where you trust God the least. (Craig Groschel)

[The Way of Jesus]

Verse 19-21: Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth…but lay up for yourself treasures in heaven…for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

1) Jesus is talking about missing the point of life: What is my primary concern and how does that concern align with eternity? Do I trust God to actually take care of me? Is life just about food, clothing, shelter? What about MY priorities?

2) Why do we treasure things that don’t last? Money, house, cars,

Verse 24: No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

1) We are faced with this choice: what / who are we pursuing?

2) Money is a resource; it can hurt us or it can benefit us.

Verse 25-26: Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air…are you not more valuable

1) Do not worry (about your needs) and consider the ravens. What do the birds of the air and the lilies of the field do to have their needs met? Nothing really – God provides for them.

2) Don’t worry about all the things you need to get done (housing, bills, etc.)

3) How much value do you see in yourself?

Verse 33: Seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you.

1) What is the kingdom of God? It is his rule / reign over our lives. Live a life that aligns with what God is calling you to.

2) Seek his righteousness (not a righteousness that is our own). Do think, don’t act and don’t believe that you can impress God with your good deeds.

3) Seek to live a life that is about God’s agenda above your own and his promise is he will take care of your basic needs (clothing, shelter, food).

4) What needs to change in your thinking, so you stop prioritizing your agenda over God’s?

Verse 34: Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day its own trouble.

1) When the word Therefore appears, find out what it is there for…always read the previous verse.

2) We don’t need to be anxious if we are seeking God’s kingdom and his righteousness.

3) Today has enough trouble of its own.
