Hearty Giving Series
Contributed by Bryan Beverly on Aug 1, 2016 (message contributor)
Summary: This is part of a series of very brief messages that can be used in church newsletters for stewardship.
4Moses said to all the congregation of the Israelites: This is the thing that the Lord has commanded: 5Take from among you an offering to the Lord; let whoever is of a generous heart bring the Lord’s offering: gold, silver, and bronze;
20Then all the congregation of the Israelites withdrew from the presence of Moses. 21And they came, everyone whose heart was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and brought the Lord’s offering to be used for the tent of meeting, and for all its service, and for the sacred vestments. 22So they came, both men and women; all who were of a willing heart brought brooches and earrings and signet rings and pendants, all sorts of gold objects, everyone bringing an offering of gold to the Lord. (Exodus 35: 4-5, 20-22; NRSV)
After the Israelites had repented from worshipping the golden calf, Moses called on them to supply the resources needed to support their worship of God. The scripture suggests that they were ‘hearty givers’ – people who gave from their hearts in a sincere, visible and significant way.
In like manner, the church needs your regular giving to support the work of the church. Please do what you can, and above all do it from the heart. There is a popular credit card catch phrase that asks - “What’s in your wallet?” But the question that God asks is - What’s in your heart?”
