Summary: When God saw David as a man after His own heart, he noticed three important character traits He still values today: spirituality, humility, and integrity.
The LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people.
From 1 Samuel 13:14
What does God look for in our hearts?
I Spirituality
A. A life alive with His Spirit
B. God is looking for men and women whose hearts are completely His for Him to fill.
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
II Humility
A. A servant’s heart is a humble heart.
B. You do as you are told
C. You don’t rebel
D. You respect those in charge
E. You serve faithfully.
Psalm 78:70 He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds.
Psalm 89:20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him.
III Integrity
A. It is displayed in what you do when no one’s looking
B. It’s much more than making a good impression.
Psalm 78:71-72 From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. 72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
