Summary: The Bible clearly teaches that God cannot have fellowship with sinfulness.
The Bible clearly teaches that God cannot have fellowship with sinfulness. His holy nature demands righteousness, and He cannot tolerate evil.
God's Holiness
- Habakkuk 1:13: "You are too pure to tolerate wrongdoing; you cannot condone evil."
- Leviticus 11:44-45: "For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy."
The Consequences of Sin
- Isaiah 59:2: "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear."
- Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Restoration through Righteousness
- 1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
- 2 Corinthians 5:21: "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
Living a Holy Life
- 1 Peter 1:15-16: "But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'"
- Romans 12:1-2: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
God's nature is incompatible with sinfulness. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven and restored to a right relationship with God. By living a holy life and pursuing righteousness, we can maintain fellowship with God and reflect His character to the world.
