Series: Action [#14]

FULL?

Acts 6:8-15

Introduction:

On this Father’s Day, what the Body of Christ needs and what the world needs is men of God who will live like Jesus and lead like Jesus. I want to ask each of you a question; but before I do, I want to say, “Don’t think dirty thoughts when I ask the question”. My question- “What are you full of”? Let me rephrase- “What is your life spiritually full of”?

Last week, we studied about the 1st Deacons; and saw that they were chosen by the people. Immediately after this, we see 1 of these Deacons in trouble with the religious leaders. I want you to see the qualities of Stephen and encourage you to live your life with these same qualities. Verse 8 sets up the entire point of the passage- “A man full of God’s grace and power”. Let me ask this question again, “What is your life full of”?

Acts 6:8-10

When you are full of God’s grace and power, you will…

1. Speak with wisdom.

As people try to draw you into pointless arguments and try to discredit you; through the power of the Holy Spirit, you will speak with wisdom. God will give you the words you need. Be careful with what you say because those around you are listening.

When you are full of God’s grace and power, you will…

2. Expose the opposition.

A “religious spirit” will always be exposed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Light always eliminates the darkness. When you live your life in a godly way, everyone around you will see the power and grace of God within you.

Acts 6:11-15

When you are full of God’s grace and power, you will…

3. Face persecution.

Notice all of the backbiting and secret meetings going on. Why couldn’t they face Stephen? They could not win against God’s truths.

Conclusion:

Are you full of the Holy Spirit? Which person or group do you fit into from this passage? Are you the one always criticizing and finding reasons to not minister or are you the one that has a life similar to Stephens?
