Summary: In this sermon, we'll explore biblical signs that may indicate God does not want you to be with someone.

As Christians, we seek God's guidance in all aspects of life, including relationships. However, determining whether God wants us to be with someone can be challenging. In this sermon, we'll explore biblical signs that may indicate God does not want you to be with someone.

Unequal Yoking (2 Corinthians 6:14-15)

God warns against being unequally yoked with unbelievers. If your partner does not share your faith, it may be a sign that God does not want you to be together. The Bible warns against being unequally yoked with unbelievers in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15. This passage cautions us against forming close relationships with those who do not share our faith, as it can lead to spiritual compromise and hinder our walk with God. If your partner does not share your faith, it may be a sign that God does not want you to be together. This is not to say that we cannot have relationships with unbelievers, but rather that we should be cautious about forming close bonds that could potentially lead us astray.

Lack of Peace (Colossians 3:15)

If you consistently feel a lack of peace or unease in the relationship, it may be a sign that God is not in it. Colossians 3:15 instructs us to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts. If we are not experiencing peace in our relationship, it may be an indication that something is amiss. This lack of peace can manifest in different ways, such as feeling anxious, uncertain, or unsettled. If you find yourself consistently feeling this way, it may be time to reevaluate the relationship.

Disobedience to God's Word (1 John 2:3-6)

If your partner encourages or leads you to disobey God's Word, it's a clear indication that God does not want you to be with them. 1 John 2:3-6 reminds us that we know we have come to know Him if we obey His commands. If our partner is leading us away from obedience, it's a sign that they are not right for us. This can include encouraging sinful behavior, dismissing biblical values, or leading us away from our faith.

Unhealthy Patterns (Proverbs 22:24-25)

If the relationship is marked by unhealthy patterns such as abuse, manipulation, or control, it's a sign that God wants you to reevaluate. Proverbs 22:24-25 warns us against associating with those who have unhealthy patterns, as it can lead to our own downfall. If you find yourself in a relationship where you feel belittled, controlled, or manipulated, it's time to seek help and potentially end the relationship.

Different Values and Goals (Amos 3:3)

If your values and goals are not aligned with your partner's, it may be a sign that God does not want you to be with someone who is not heading in the same direction. Amos 3:3 asks, "Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?" If you and your partner are not walking in the same direction, it may be a sign that you are not meant to be together.

While these signs do not necessarily mean the relationship is doomed, they do indicate that God may not want you to be with someone. Trust in God's sovereignty and wisdom and seek His guidance through prayer and scripture. Remember, His plans are to prosper you, not to harm you (Jeremiah 29:11). If you find yourself in a relationship where you are experiencing any of these signs, take time to seek God's guidance and wisdom. He will lead you in the right direction, even if it means ending the relationship.
