Contributed by David Smith on Jul 2, 2001 (message contributor)
Summary: Some common reasons and excuses people use for not attending church
10 REASONS PEOPLE DO NOT ATTEND CHURCH
HEB 10:24-25
1 - TIME
work schedules ballgames kids mowing gardening
2 - BORING IRRELEVANT
music preaching - cannot relate to it (or the people)
3 - OTHER INTERESTS
friends hobbies t.v. ....etc.
4 - GUILT
living a sinful life that they love more than they
love God and want to change
5 - TOO MANY DENOMINATIONS
which one is right? - wouldn’t it be worth the time to investigate
*It wouldn’t shock me to find when we stand in judgment that there were poor
quality churches in every denomination -
6 - HYPOCRITES
They are out there - but that is no reason to desert God’s church
Wheat and Tares - God DID warn us
7 - THEY CONSIDER THEMSELVES TO BE GOOD PEOPLE
Most of us are, even before coming to Christ
If you refuse to be a part of God’s church you are not good
in the most important place
8 - SOMEONE HURT THEIR FEELINGS
everyone’s feelings have been hurt -
surely a family member has hurt feelings before - you didn’t find a new home
9 - ‘GOD KNOWS MY HEART’
This answer is not as humble as it sounds
*your life is not a complex as mine- I have a good enough heart that God is o.k.
w/me
*OR - My heart is good enough I don’t have to do what God
requires of all other Christians
10 - THEY MISSED THE POINT
God’s kingdom is not about selfishness but selflessness
*Too many have jumped ship - abandoned the call -
*found a reason why they don’t follow the Savior
There are no valid reasons for not taking our place in God’s church - the body of Christ.
Matt 13:47-49 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into
the sea, and gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore,
and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it
be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from
among the just,
Don’t be a bad fish!! Keep the faith.
