Who’s Your Daddy Series

You Look Like Your Daddy

I. Who’s Your Daddy?

Romans 8:15-17 “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs- heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”

1 John 3:1 “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!”

II. You Look Like Your Daddy

Your genes determine how you look. Each of us receives traits-in the form of genes- from our parents. We get genetic material from both of our parents-that’s why you look like both your mommy and your Daddy.

Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’”

When man was created, he had the genetic material of God. Therefore, he could be called a little God. In fact, the Scripture says just that!

Psalm 8:5 “For You have made him a little lower than the angels [Hebrew –Elohim -God] and You have crowned him with glory and honor.”

We were made a little lower than God. God made us in His class, like Him, so that He could fellowship with us. Man and Man’s Best Friend (DOG) can have limited fellowship, but man and man can have much closer fellowship. Therefore, God and little God can have a much closer relationship than God and angels.

Not only do you look like your Daddy, but you should act like your Daddy, too.

III. You Act Like Your Daddy

Ephesians 5:1 “Therefore be imitators of God as dear Children.”

Story about Kids wearing their Daddy’s clothes and shoes.

1 Peter 1:15,16 “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’” Essentially, you can put any characteristic of God in there and fill in the blanks- because I am holy, you should be holy. Because I am loving, you should be loving. Because I am compassionate, you should be compassionate. Because I am bold, you should be bold. Because I am powerful, you should be powerful. Because I call those things that are not as though they are, you should call those things that are not as though they are.

Romans 4:17 “God- who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.”

Not only do you look like your Daddy and act like your Daddy, but you should talk like your Daddy, too.

IV. You Talk Like Your Daddy

Genesis 1:2-3 “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.”

Mark 4:35-39 “On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’ Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’ Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’”

God calls it like He wants it. If it’s dark and He wants light, He says, “Light- BE.”

If it’s raining and He wants peace, He says, “Peace – BE.” In both of these cases, He doesn’t call those things that are as though they are not. There’s a huge difference. If it’s dark and God says, “It’s not dark,” He would be lying. If it’s raining and God says, “It’s not raining,” He would be lying. If I sent you outside to check on the weather, and I hear the thunder, and see the lightning, and you come back in, and you’re soaking wet, and you say, “It’s not raining,” you would be lying, and you would be an idiot. But that’s not how God talks, He calls it like He wants it. In every instance of healing, casting out devils, and miracles, you never see Jesus lying. If a man has a demon, he says, “Come out, demon,” not “There is no demon in there” and waves his hand like he’s using the force or something. NO!
