V. SERMONIC THEME: “Watch THEM DAWGS”

INTRODUCTION: … How many folk in here today are “DOG” lovers? If you love DAWGS, please stand. Brothers and sisters, please join me in giving our dogs’ lovers a round of applause. I, for one, really appreciate folk that shower their dogs with love and care. Because I, with good reasons, don’t care for dogs.

For you see, all it takes is one bad or terrible experience with dawgs to become someone who doesn’t care for dogs. For me, my bad experience occurred when I was about 9 or 10 years old. I

was headed to our neighborhood store to purchase some coconut butter cookies. As some of you may recall, those cookies were two for a penny … I was going to pick-up a pint of Lady Borden’s Butter Pecan Ice Cream too.

I was minding my own business with the corner-store in site … I could almost taste those cookies.

When all of a sudden, out of nowhere came this mean dawg and his two friends. He was doing a slow growl behind me.

MOVE 1: A slow growl is when the dawg – growls while simultaneously showing some long teeth.

a. Well, it take me long to decide that this was one of those moments when I should probably run for my life.

b. So, I did … and so did he and his friends.

c. As I realized that I couldn’t out-run them, I ran and jump on top of the nearest car… and I have been reluctant to love and care for dawgs every since.

d. Although, I do appreciate folks that do love dawgs.

MOVE 2: In fact, some months ago, one of our deacons-in-training (Dea. Balentines with a backpack on his shoulder) was enroute to our Tuesday night Pastoral Bible Study.

a. At first glance, from a distance, I could see him walking with “precious” (his dawg from the toy group). He had a short leach around her neck.

b. However, as we got closer to the chapel, for some reason or another – I must have turned my head for just a moment.

c. At any rate, when I turned around, I recall saying to myself … man he sure tied her up outside rather QUICKLY.

d. Without any further deliberation on the subject matter I walked into the chapel.

e. I sat listening to and enjoying our Praise and Worship, when suddenly I noticed a little small head peaking-out of Dea. Balentines backpack.

f. It was his dawg "PRECIOUS".

g. I immediately when over to him and requested his presence into the chapel’s foyer.

h. After informing Dea. Balentines that we couldn’t have "dawgs" in the sanctuary, he left too.

i. I guess his position was if the WORD isn’t good enough for my DAWG, it’s not good enough for me. The brother loves his dawg.

MOVE 3: Likewise, there are many people with great affection for their dawgs.

a. Dawg care is big time and big business.

b. Did you know that there are over 9,000 books written on dogs along? And in America, there are over 200 different types of Dawgs.
