The Table of Shewbread

Central Truth: Jesus provides for all our needs

Scripture: EXO 25:23 "You shall also make a table of acacia wood; two cubits shall be its length, a cubit its width, and a cubit and a half its height.

24 "And you shall overlay it with pure gold, and make a molding of gold all around.

25 "You shall make for it a frame of a handbreadth all around, and you shall make a gold molding for the frame all around.

26 "And you shall make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings on the four corners that are at its four legs.

27 "The rings shall be close to the frame, as holders for the poles to bear the table.

28 "And you shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be carried with them.

29 "You shall make its dishes, its pans, its pitchers, and its bowls for pouring. You shall make them of pure gold.

30 "And you shall set the showbread on the table before Me always.

Lesson Points:

1. Location: The table of shewbread is located in the holy place on the north wall across

from the candlestick. The holy place is where we begin to realize true fellowship through

revelation of Jesus Christ.

2. Dimensions: The table of shewbread is three feet long, one and a half feet wide and

two feet three inches high. There were twelve loaves of bread on this table that were

changed out each sabbath.

3. Materials: It is made of acacia wood overlaid with gold.

4. Types: The acacia wood represents the sinless and perfect humanity of Christ. Gold

represents purity and the divine nature of Christ. These two together show the union of the

two natures. JOH 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His

glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

LEV 24:7 "And you shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be on the bread for

a memorial, an offering made by fire to the LORD.

8 "Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the

children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.

9 "And it shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place; for it is most

holy to him from the offerings of the LORD made by fire, by a perpetual statute."

The twelve loaves ( one for each tribe ) represent God’s presence and provision in our

daily lives. It was given to the priest.

REV 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the

ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His

own blood,

6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion

forever and ever. Amen.

Bread speaks of Christ:

JOH 6:48 "I am the bread of life.

JOH 6:51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this

bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give

for the life of the world."

Bread speaks of the word:

MAT 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, ’Man shall not live by bread alone, but

by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ "

God’s provision

Gen 22:1-14

GEN 22:1 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him,

"Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."

2 And He said, "Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the

land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I

shall tell you."

3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young

men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and

went to the place of which God had told him.

4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off.

5 And Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go

yonder and worship, and we will come back to you."

6 So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took
