Summary: As children of God, we are called to spread love, kindness, and compassion to those around us.
As children of God, we are called to spread love, kindness, and compassion to those around us. However, when our good deeds are met with negativity, criticism, or ingratitude, it can be disheartening and make us question our worth.
The World's Reaction vs. God's Approval
In Matthew 5:11-12, Jesus says, "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
Here, Jesus reminds us that the world's reaction to our kindness is not a reflection of our worth. Instead, we should focus on God's approval and the eternal rewards that await us.
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan, who stopped to help a wounded stranger despite the risks and potential rejection. The Samaritan's kindness was not motivated by the expectation of reward or gratitude but by his compassion and obedience to God's command to "love your neighbor as yourself" (Leviticus 19:18).
The Heart of Kindness
In 1 Corinthians 13:3, Paul writes, "If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing."
True kindness is not about seeking recognition, praise, or reciprocation. It's about demonstrating God's love and character in our actions, even when it's difficult or thankless.
As believers, we must remember that our kindness is not measured by the world's reaction but by God's standard of love and compassion. When we focus on pleasing God rather than people, we can continue to spread kindness and love without expectation of reward or recognition.
