Sermon 1: The Master Evangelist

Matthew 9:35-10:15

As Jesus moved among the people teaching, preaching, and healing, He was moved by the people. He had compassion. He felt as they felt.

I think I need to tell you in the early moments of the preachment hour that evangelism is seeing the world as Jesus saw it. Whe he saw moved him into action. He looked beyond what was on the surface and saw a deep spiritual need. E saw them fainted. Meaning that they had been beaten down by life and defeated. He saw them scattered. They had lost that which holds life together. Life for them was fragmented and falling to pieces.

This is a motivating factor for evangelism. What do you see in the crowds? Don’t be fooled by the outside. There are a lot of people who are fainting and scattered.

The question is how can I strengthen my insight? You got to stay close to the Lord. You need to get out among the multitudes. You cannot be moved by the people, if you don’t move among the people."

I think I need to tell you that evangelism is to recruit people to meet the need. The job is too big for anyone of us alone. Jesus knew the crowd was vast and the needs were great, too great for one person. So he said pray for laborers. They don’t have to be seminary trained or religious professionals (the disciples weren’t. People who are ordinary, that will follow and are obedient to God makes the best evangelist.

I think I need to tell you in these closing moments of the preachment hour to get out of the church and go where the people are. Don’t wait on them to come to church. There are so many who are not coming to church for so many reasons. Don’t have a maintenance mentality go and minister!
