Summary: There are so much talk about the gifts of the Spirit, but what good are they without the Fruit of the Spirit?
The Fruit Of The Spirit
Galatians 5:16-26
Mention: John 15:1-5 Jesus speaks of bring forth fruit and this passage has been given multiple meaning such as fruit being souls, but also the fruit of our lives.
Phil. 1:11 Fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, unto glory and praise of God
Here in our passage there is what we refer to a nine graces that are the Fruit of the Spirit.
Point: Fruit is singular because we are not given some of these nine graces, but yet them all
I truly believe that there is some significance to order of these nine graces.
Mention: Galatians 5:19-21 The works of the flesh which could also be referred to the as fruit of the flesh.
Comment: When mine or your actions depict the works of the things mentioned here it is not of the Holy Spirit, but of the flesh
Mention: Romans 7:18 In my flesh dwelleth no good thing
As an introduction to our study of these nine graces I want to take the time to emphasize the working of the Spirit in our lives.
Statement: As Christians we are not effective unless we are ministering in the demonstration of the Holy Spirit.
1. There Is The Struggle
See: Vs.16-17 The Spirit against the flesh
The moment you and me accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior there begin a struggle within ourselves concerning who would have rule over our lives.
Truth: There are some days in all of our lives the flesh sometimes prevails, but this must not become acceptable you and me.
See: Romans 7:22-23 For I delight (his desire), but I…
Point: The Spirit most of the time not warring off the devil, but warring against the ever present old man that resurrects himself from the dead.
2. There Is The Setting At Liberty
See: Vs.18 But if ye are led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law
Vs.1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty…
The idea here is we do not have to be a slave to sin anymore because we have made free.
See: Gal. 5:13 This freedom is not to be use as an occasion to the flesh (serve).
3. There Is The Surrendering
Mention: Eph. 3:19
And: Col. 1:9
Acts 4:31 Being filled cause to speak the words of God with boldness
Acts 13:52 The disciples fill with joy and the Holy Ghost
See: Eph. 5:18 Not controlled by wine, but by the Holy Spirit
Comment: Not only does the Holy Spirit tell us what say, but also instruct us in what to do and it is in this these nine graces are manifest.
Mention: Romans 8:26-27 The Spirit maketh intercession for us according to the will of God
4. There Is The Service
Mention: John 14:16 He the Comforter
He the Conqueror
Mention: 1 John 4:4
He the Counselor
Mention: John 16:13 He will guide you into all truth
He the Christ
Mention: Gal. 2:20
These nine graces are an example of Jesus Christ before a world that does not know Him.
