Surviving and Overcoming Worry and Anxiety
Matthew 6, Psalm 37
Introduction:
I. We must remember that we are valuable to God. (Matt. 6:26)
A. We are more valuable than the birds of the air
B. We are more beautiful than the lilies of the field
C. We are more splendid than Solomon’s temple
D. He will take care of us in a way greater than these others of his creation
II. It is not practical to worry.
Most of what we worry about can not be changed
1. Usually my worry is much greater than the reality
2. Worry does not add even an hour to our life. (Mt. 6:27)
a. The effects of worry
b. The pursuit of “material things” keeps us from pursuing things that matter.
III. Seven Scripture admonitions for dealing with anxiety
A. Trust in the Lord and do good
B. Delight yourself in the Lord
C. Commit your way to the Lord
D. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him
E. Do not chafe, brood, or fume when men succeed in their ways, or when they carry out their wicked schemes.
F. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath
G. Do not fret—it leads only to evil.
Conclusion:
We must commit our ways to the Lord so that, He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn. And the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.
