Speak out your own Miracle!

Joshua 1:8

Introduction:

I believe that this is a timely message for us as a church.

I know God is doing a marvellous work in our midst; some of you here will be surprised of the blessing that will come your way after hearing this sermon.

Some of us don’t know the power we got in our mouth.

The psalmist says whoever of you loves life

and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil

and your lips from speaking lies. (Psalms 34:13, 14)

The Bible has much to say about the important role our words play in our lives, and all the more when we are speaking the Word of God over our situation.

The Torah (the first five books of Moses) is read out loud by the Jews.

A Jewish Christian shared that for generations they read God’s word out loud because of Joshua 1:8

I know not all of us agree in this principle, but many of you here just reaping the fruit of what your mouth says.(Confession)

Proverbs 18:21

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

If you want to change the course of your life, change your confession.

James said the tongue is like a rudder, meaning it can bring you wherever you want to go.

James 3:4

Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.

There are 2 powerful key words that I want you to learn today.

I. Mouth.

The mouth is what we use when we speak.

This is the area of confession.Your word is the expression of your mental image.

There are many scriptures that speak about the mouth and its power.

Proverbs 12:14

From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things…

Proverbs 13:3(New living translation)

Those who control their tongue will have a long life;

opening your mouth can ruin everything.

The Greek for confession is “Homologeo” it means, “to say the same thing as another, to agree with.”

In other words, we agree with God by saying what He has said in His words.

Romans 10:6-11

"But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, "Do not say in your heart, ’Who will ascend into heaven?’ " (that is, to bring Christ down from above) or, " ’Who will descend into the abyss?’ " (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

We confess what’s only in our heart, what is in our hearts is what we believe in.

Many think this block of scripture is speaking only of salvation. This is also applicable in all areas of our life.

We need the heart and the mouth (speaking out, declaring what the Word says) working together. Generally, either one used alone will not bring about the desired results.

II. Meditation

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night…”

The word “meditate” in English means to ponder.

But in Hebrew, it is the word hagah, which means to utter or mutter under your breath.

In other words, you speak forth or confess God’s Word instead of just giving it mental agreement.

So this is still related to confession.

In Jewish mindset this is more than pondering on the word of God.

I have another picture in my mind about “meditation”

Meditation - The act of meditating; close or continued thought; the turning or revolving of a subject in the mind; serious contemplation; reflection; musing.

I call this “prayer of the mind.”

We are greatly affected by what we put in our mind.

That’s why we need to meditate on the word of God.

Meditation is the best way to change ones mindset.

Proverbs 4:23

Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.

One of the great psychological discoveries of the past century is that your thoughts control your actions.

If you want to change the way you act, you must first change how you think.

And this can be done only through meditating the word of God.

So hagah (meditate) God’s Word by confessing verses in the areas that you are believing God for breakthroughs.

What have been thinking lately? What is your confession for the past days?
