Praying For the Sick (Part 1)
Pastor Rex E. Faile, Sr.

Introduction: Throughout the Scriptures we see the mercy of God extended for salvation and deliverance. We know that trust in God’s Word is the only way we will please God and is also the only way we can receive from God. May this Word spur us to good works, destroying the works of the devil, and bring glory and honor to God as well as much needed blessing to His Body.
Luke 4:18
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (KJV)
I. Jesus prayed for the sick
A. Jesus ministry was teaching,
preaching,and healing
B. The gospel of the kingdom is “God’s authority” over all powers in heaven and earth
Matt 4:23
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. (KJV)
II. The disciples prayed for the sick
A. Heal the sick and say, “The kingdom of God is in your midst.”
Matt 10:7-8
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
(KJV)
Luke 10:8-9
8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
(KJV)
III. The elders prayed for the sick
A. Elders are leaders of love and faith (giftings from Christ given to the Body for its welfare)
B. The sheep are told to call for the shepherds of the church for they truly watch over their souls
James 5:14-15
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. (KJV)
IV. Signs and Healings Will Follow Those Who Believe and Exercise Authority in Jesus Name
A. God nor His Word changes
1. Let us be bold in believing that God will be strong and merciful in healing His people
Mark 16:17-18
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
(KJV)
In Conclusion: We see then that healing was as much a part of Jesus’ ministry as was preaching and teaching. We will explore this subject more in detail in part 2.
