Oh, Lamb Of God Series

I. God Prepared the Place (v1-4)
’When God made Calvary it was more than a hill’
Just as God had planned the place to test Abraham’s obedience--God planned from the portals of eternity the place the Lord Jesus would suffer, bleed, and die for all of humanity.
II. God Planned the Preparations (v5-8)
There are (3) things that typify the message of the cross:
1.The Wood (v6)--this is a picture of the tree on which the Prince of Glory would die for you and for me.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross--Philippians 2:8
2. The Fire(v6)--the fire depicts the judgment that was to handed down.
The judgment may have been handed down from Pilate’s hall that day, but truly it had been determined when mankind rebelled against God--and thus a sacrifice of reconciliation had to be made. The only thing Christ was guilty of was loving you and me.
3. The Knife(v6)--just as they came to Jesus banishing staves and swords, the nails would be driven into the flesh of Jesus to crucify our Lord--just as the sword pierced His side--just as the pain pierced His body--just as the sin pierced His soul--the knife would be used for the sacrifice.
God made plans for the Crucifixion
Someone has well said, "The only thing man-made in heaven will be the prints on His hands and feet, and the piercing in His side"
III. God Promised the Provision (v9-14)
Abraham was familiar with God’s promises:
He promised Him a great nation
He promised Him abundance
He promised Him a son in latter years
He promised a seed to come
Here God promises a Lamb--a substitute; a sacrifice--and Abraham trusted and it was evident by the passage (v4,5,8)
Verse 7 is the eternal question by mankind today, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering"
Mankind will not find this substitute in wealth; prosperity; entertainment; or his own will
Verse 8, ensures us, that God has provided the substitute--the Lamb of God that reigns today; the rules today--that restores today
By this declaration Abraham chose for his life--God as my providor--notice verse 14--Abraham called the place, "Jehovah-Jireh" meaning ’God will provide’
Today, when you look at the cross--Remember the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
