Jesus is the Son of God, as shown in John 5:15- 47
You guys have heard this the past several weeks, the reason John wrote the Gospel of John was to teach that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God. Here are 12 more times that John reveals Jesus is the Son of God:
Jesus is the Son of God because…
1. He had the power too heal people.
2. He said God was His Father.
3. He can control whom He gives life too.
4. God has given Jesus His authority to judge people.
5. He must be honored in order to honor God.
6. He was given the same life as God.
7. He has authority to judge people because He became a person.
8. John the Baptist said He was.
9. His work shows that He is.
10. God the Father says He is.
11. The Bible says He is.
12. Moses said He is.
#1. John 5:15 The man [this is the man Jesus healed, who had been an invalid for 38 years] went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
Jesus showed Himself to be the Son of God because he had the power too heal people. Jesus still holds this power today. Many people get discouraged and disenchanted as they wait to be healed, but that is not what we are called to do.
Deuteronomy 7:22 reads, The LORD your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little. You will not be allowed to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you.
When a person comes to know Christ as their personal Savior, there are many traits they need to be healed from: doubt, discouragement, dishonesty, poverty, lying, loneliness, unfaithfulness and more. These are the nations that stand between us and our promised life in Christ. Little by little, the Lord drives these out. Changing us daily, creating a new heart and new mind in us that enables us to walk free from the bondage of sin and its destructive power. If He eliminated them all at once, other, perhaps more deadly traits and behaviors would appear in their place.
In Matthew 12 Jesus said, [When evil returns to a person it says, “I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. Jesus has the power to heal and He knows how to heal and when to heal. If we wait on Him, standing firm in our faith, believing in His power we will see God and we will all be healed.
2. Jesus is the Son of God because He said God was His Father.
John 5:17 Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.”
Romans 8:17 says, “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
John 1:12 tells us, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” The Bible says that as sure as Christ is the Son of God, we too can become sons and daughters of God. I don’t know where you may stand on the Pro-Life issue, but I am completely confident that God does not have abortions and that He will be faithful to complete the work He began in you.
3. Jesus is the Son of God because He can control whom He gives life too.
John 5:21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.
4. Jesus is the Son of God because God has given Jesus His authority to judge people.
John 5:22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,
2Corintians 5:10 says, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” We are saved by grace not by works, but our works do matter and our works will be judged and our works will be judged. Is there anything you need to do that you have not done? You need to do it before you die and face the judgment.
John 5:23, that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.
