Is The Body Important To God? Series
Contributed by Brandon Searles on Jan 26, 2005 (message contributor)
Summary: Many quesions whether our bodies and what we do with them are important to God.
Intro:
We are often taught about how God is interested in our spirit.
1. ¡§Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks on the heart¡¨
a. We must be looked at in context; Samuel was convicted of looking for one with the stature of a king rather then the heart of one.
2. ¡§Not what enters a man¡¦s mouth that defiles him but what comes out¡¨
a. The Pharisees where trying to trap Jesus in the law. They practiced a salvation by works rather than relationship. The body cannot save you but can be saved (as we will learn)
3. ¡§The body is only temporary¡¨
a. 1 Thessalonians 4
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
b. Romans 8
23Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
c. 1 Corinthians 15
51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
