I Once Was Blind But Now I See Series

Introduction:

Looking back into our lives we have lived reckless lives, carefree lives, careless lives, and the I want to do my own thing lives. We often bit off more than we could chew which often put us in situations that we regretted. Some of the mistakes that we have made in our lives we have paid for and some we are still paying for.

In the spiritual realm at that time we could be considered the walking dead or the walking blind. In the theater there was a movie called The Green Mile. There was a section of the prison that was sectioned off for all of those that were sentenced to death. And when a new inmate was being escorted to his cell, one of the prison guards would yell as they were walking to the cell, DEAD MAN WALKING, THERE’S A DEAD MAN WALKING.

We were considered the walking blind, or the walking dead. We were walking in darkness. We had the sight of our eyes to see all of the physicals things of life such as our homes, our cars, our family members, and our friends, but not those spiritual things.

The Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:18, So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Looking at the text, all of us can truly relate to the man that was blind. All of us at one time in our lives were spiritually blind. All of us have sinned. Not saying that the blindness was a sin, but blindness is blindness, and with that it brings me to my first point.

Point #1: Just A Touch

Jesus was a man that used all of the resources around him to make a point clear. He could think of something and it would come to past. In a lot of cases Jesus the Christ would speak it and it was so. He would speak words from His mouth and it would happen.

Jesus spoke to the blind and they received their sight, he spoke to the dead and they received life, he spoke to the sick and they were healed, he spoke to the lost and they were found.

On this occasion, Jesus used just a simple touch to have a miracle spring forth.

But before Jesus could complete his mission, he had to set the record straight.

During this time it was though that if you were born blind or had some other type of physical ailment, you were looked at as being punished for a sin from your parents or it was something you did.

His own disciples believed in this myth. Jesus had to set the record straight with his own disciples. If we go back and look at John 9:3 in the text, Jesus was speaking directly to His disciples about this myth. Jesus says to them Neither this man nor his parents sinned, said Jesus, but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.

There are times; God will allow obstacles to come your way so that he might be magnified. I’m going to revisit that statement.

Looking at he text it says, Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes.

Take note that Jesus used clay made moist by spittle. People of that day believed spittle had some curing qualities, and perhaps Jesus used spittle because of this.

The man’s faith would certainly be helped by thinking of its healing qualities.

Jesus made physical contact with this blind man. It wasn’t stated as to why he did but all we know is that he did.

All of us have been on our own personal Damascus Road experience. I don’t have a problem making this thing personal.

I wasn’t always a preacher. I have to tell the truth. I’m not ashamed of my past.

You should not be ashamed of your past because your past is your personal witness and testimony to help someone else. I just thank God that He turned my life around.
