Summary: The gift of hunger.

“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

Matthew 6:5

“He that cometh to Me shall never hunger.”

John 6:35

A. THE GIFT OF HUNGER

1. Without physical hunger you would die. “To die from hunger” (Jeremiah 38:9).

2. God built physical hunger into humans. “God … let you go hungry” (Deuteronomy 8:3, ELT).

3. Spiritual hunger starts with God. “No one can come to Me unless the Father draws them” (John 6:44, ELT).

4. God is looking for hearts that want Him and/or need Him.

5. Your hunger grows or manifest itself when you have a desire to read the Bible, pray, meditate or seek God.

6. When you put the work of Christ before food. Paul testified, “I have been hungry … have gone without food” (2 Corinthians 11:27, NLT).

B. HUNGER MUST BE ACTED UPON OR IT WILL FADE

1. When God directs you to food, “He escorts me to the banquet hall; it’s obvious how much he loves me” (Song of Solomon 2:4, NLT).

2. However, you must eat. “Is anyone thirsty or hungry, let him come and drink and eat … come … its all free” (Isaiah 55:1, ELT).

3. As your hunger grows in intensity, you become uncomfortable and miserable.

4. If you ignore your hunger it will fade.

5. After your hunger fades, your hunger will die.

6. After you hunger dies, you will die. “You will starve … and die” (Isaiah 5:13).

C. SPIRITUAL HUNGER CAN MOTIVATE MORE SPIRITUAL HUNGER

1. You can feed your spiritual hunger. “I was hungry, and You (the Lord) fed me” (Matthew 25:35).

2. The more food you get, the more food you want/enjoy/eat. “O taste and see that the Lord is good that will lead to more joy in your life” (Psalm 34:8, ELT).

3. The opposite is true, the less spiritual food you get, the more hunger you will feel, and the less you will grow and the less strength you will acquire.

4. God loves to stir in you a desire to know Him, grow in the Scriptures, and talk/pray to Him. “Blessed are they that hunger … they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).

5. What is your prayer?

a. Lord, take control of all parts of my life, yield.

b. Lord, fill me with Your presence, i.e., to feel Him.

c. Lord, guide me to more prayer, Bible study, ways to know You.

d. Lord, grow me in strength and wisdom.

e. Lord, use me to encourage other believers.

f. Lord may my testimony influence lost people.

g. Lord, I worship You, be pleased with my praise.

If you have never really accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, would you do it right now? Do not delay or put it off. If you would like to receive Christ by faith, pray this simple prayer in your heart:

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins on the cross, and rose again the third day. I repent of my sins. By faith I receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior. You promised to save me, and I believe You, because You are God and cannot lie. I believe right now that the Lord Jesus is my personal Savior, and that all my sins are forgiven through His precious blood. I thank You, dear Lord, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer, God heard you and saved you. I personally want to welcome you to the family of God and rejoice with you.
