WHO IS THIS MAN (part 2)

“His Name Is Elohim”

SERIES TEXT: Hebrews 3:1

INTRODUCTION – If we are going to build a confidence in the principle and process of confession, we must build a confidence in the person of our confession. We must consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus. The Greek word for profession is the same as the Greek word for confession, “homologeo.” A profession is what we do for income. As believers, confession is what we do to cause what is in heaven to come into the earth. Our profession is confession. Christ Jesus is the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. He is the Word of God (Jn 1:1-3, & 14) and He is the God of the Word (Heb 1:8-12). In order to learn to trust in His word, we must learn to trust Him. To learn to trust Him, we must get to know Him more. We must get to know Him more, that we may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings (Phil 3:10). We should want to know Him more that we may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge (Eph 3:18-19). God wants us to know more about His power and His personality, His authority and His ability, His conduct and His character so He introduces us to different facets of His nature by introducing Himself to different people at different times in different situations by different names. Today we’ll begin to learn more about the God of the Word by going to the beginning of the word of God.

MESSAGE TEXT: Genesis 1:1 – In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

1. Elohim is the God creation. The word God in Genesis 1:1 is the Hebrew word “Elohim.” In the beginning Elohim created the heaven and the earth, so Elohim is the God of creation, beginnings and new things. The prefix “El” means strong and might one. The suffix “im” in Hebrew is the same as the ending “s” in English, so, not only is Elohim the God of creation, beginnings and new things but He is also one God with more than one facet to His being. The Lord our God is One (Deut 6:4) but the Lord our God is three-in-one (1 Jn 5:7). Creation bears witness to the fact that God is three-in-one because creation is three-in-one. (Height, width, depth; liquid, solid, vapor; sky, land, sea; heaven, earth, hell; animals, fish, foul; spirit, soul, body; good, acceptable,

perfect; 30, 60, 100 fold; prayer, intercession, supplication).

Elohim is the God of creation.

2. Elohim is the God or re-creation and restoration. The creation story is Genesis 1:1. Genesis 1:2 says And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. 1 Cor 14:40 tells us that God does decently and in order. Jn 1:4 tells us that in Him was life; and the life was the light of men. The God of decency, order, and light would not have created the earth without form, void, and dark. Therefore, something must have happened between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2. Jn 10:10 tells us that the devil comes to still kill and destroy. Between Gen1:1 and Gen 1:2, Satan was kicked out of heaven and fell to the earth like lightning (Rev 12:7-9) (Luk 10:18). Gen 1:3 is the beginning of the re-creation story. Elohim is the God of re-creation and restoration. In Gen 1:1, God created. To create is bring something out of nothing. In Gen 1:3, God started to re-create or restore because He took what had been destroyed and made it better than it was before. This is the resurrection power of God, the ability to take negative and turn it into positive. Only Elohim can all things both bad and good work together for good. Elohim is the God of re-creation and restoration.

3. Elohim is the God the helps me to start again. We use Old Testament explanation to clarify New Testament revelation. My pastor always says we look at the Old Testament historically, to interpret Christ prophetically, so we can apply it to our lives spiritually. In other words, what happened there and then was written to help us here and now. What we can learn from the creation and re-creation/restoration story is if God could rebuild the earth after it was destroyed, then God can rebuild my life after it has been destroyed. If I’ve lost everything, but I still have Jesus Christ, I have enough to start again. God can use the negative that devil (and I) have done in my life and use it for positive (Rom 8:28). He’s the God that helps me to start again! This was always Plan A. Jesus Christ coming to redeem fallen man was not Plan B. It was always Plan A. God is not trying to get us to the state that Adam was in before the fall. He wants to make us better than we were before. That’s why the same tree of life that was in the garden of Eden in the front of the book is in heaven in the back of the book. Re-creation/restoration was always Plan A. Jn 10:10 tell us that the devil came to steal, kill, and destroy but Jesus came to then turn that deprivation, death, and destruction into life and life more abundantly. Re-creation/ restoration was always Plan A. God would not have created man a little lower that the angels after one third of them fell from grace if re-creation and restoration was not always Plan A (Heb 1:6-7). Recreation/restoration was Plan A from the foundation of the world. The kingdom was prepared from the foundation of the world (Matt 25:31-34). The Father loved Jesus from the foundation of the world (Jn 17:24). God chose us from the foundation of the world (Eph 1:4). The work was finished from the foundation of the world (Heb 4:3). Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God was slain from the foundation of the world (Rev 17:8). Redemption and reconciliation was always God’s plan for man. Re-creation and restoration was always Plan A. This lets me know that nothing the devil does is too much for God to handle and nothing the devil does catches God by surprise. It’s all part of the plan because Elohim is the God of a second chance. He is the God that helps me to start again.
