Introduction:

If you were to do a word study from the Book of Hebrews, one word that keeps popping up is the word "better". At least twelve (12) times that word shows up in the text. Jesus is a better revelation; Jesus is a better priesthood; Jesus is a better hope, and Jesus is a better resurrection just to name a few of the betters of Jesus Christ.

Studying that word "better" challenged me to find other things that Jesus is better at that were not included in that Hebrew list. And a couple of weeks ago, on a Wednesday, I gave you my first one I discovered in a sermon called "Jesus is Better than Glue".

Tonight, I want to look at my second "better." Jesus is better than the impossible. So, if you have your Bibles turn with me to and I want us to look at two texts from the Gospel of Luke.

Scripture:

In this first Scripture, Mary asked the angel that announced the news that she will be with child, "how is this possible." And this is his response.

Luke 1:37 (NKJV) 37 For with God nothing will be impossible."

In the second Scripture, after the rich young ruler walked away from Jesus rejecting the salvation offered to him, Jesus made the statement "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." And then the people with Jesus asked: if that is the case, how can a person be saved. And Jesus' answer is our second Scripture.Luke 18:27 (NKJV) 27 But He said, "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God."

And what I hear in those two Scriptures is that Jesus is better than the impossible? So, my question is "what does that mean to me?'

Point #1

I need to guard against incorrect thinking. I need to believe for the unbelievable.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

When was the last time you believed God for the unbelievable? Something beyond the ordinary. Something that unless God steps in than it will not happen. Sometimes we get in a rut, and we believe God for small things, but we don't ask Him for big things. Churches, small churches, are especially good at that. Why cannot a small church ask God for big things? Why cannot you and I ask God for big things?

Here is Paul in prison and he believe that with Christ is him, he can do all things. With God, nothing limits him, not even the prison walls. So, I need to remind myself daily to believe big. Believe for the unbelievable because God is better than the impossible.

Point # 2

I need to remember all the examples the Bible gives me of the impossibles that God performed.

Let me share with you a couple of them. .

It is impossible to create something out of nothing. But God spoke this world into existence.

It is impossible for a barren woman who is in now past childbearing age to give birth to a child, but Sarah became the mother of a great nation.

It is impossible for the Israelites to walk across the Red Sea and the Jordan River on dry land, but that is exactly what they did.

It is impossible to bring back from the death one who has been dead several days, but that is exactly what Jesus did when He raised Lazarus from the grave.

Now remember this is nowhere near a complete list. I could have talked about making an ax head float, feeding crowds with just a little, healing the blind, casting out demons and stopping the rotation of the earth one day for Joshua to battle.

If I forget all the impossibles that God performed in the Bibles, I am less likely to believe that God will do the impossible in my life. If the impossibles are at the forefront of my mind, I am more likely to believe that God will do the impossible in my life.

I got to keep reminding myself to believe the unbelievable I must remember that God has done many unbelievables that have been recorded in Scripture for me.

Point # 3

I need to aware in my life of those times that I make those "I cannot statement" because that is like saying that God can no do the impossible. And what that reveals is my lack of faith.

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Think about some possible I cannot statements that you might have made:
