Last week we began our series entitled “Behold the Lamb.”

The title of the message was “Behold the Lamb Promised.”

In that message we covered three areas of “The Lamb Promised.”

1. The Personality of the Promised Lamb

2. The Purpose of the Promised Lamb

3. The Portrait of the Promised Lamb

Introduction

From the breaking of the dawn of time as mankind knows time, mankind violated a sacred trust and which ushered in the deadly virus of sin.

Which now flows through every human being.

However, God made a promise that there would come One who would balance the scales, defeat evil, and deliver humanity.

For thousands of year’s mankind waited.

And while mankind waited, God worked.

God began His work through a man named Abram from Ur of the Chaldees.

Through this man God raised up a nation known as Israel.

God worked through this nation to establish His Law and His order of worship on the earth.

However, the Nation of Israel was constantly making a mess of God’s plan.

They constantly turned away from God and embraced the world.

Adopting their own religion.

Whether it be a graven image, or self man made pleasures.

Never the less God was patient with them, and He continued to work.

He worked in spite of their tendency to follow false gods.

He worked in spite of their tendency to embrace self-man made pleasures.

He worked in spite of them turning a deaf ear to His Word and to the preachers and prophets He sent to lead them.

He worked in spite of the fact that they really did not seem to care about Him at all.

God worked because He was completing a plan that begun before the beginning of time.

Before the foundation of the world even before the creation of mankind.

He worked because He was determined to send a Redeemed to this world to save the lost.

He worked because He was motivated by a heart of love to see His people saved.

So, He worked in spite of everything they did and in working, His love for them overcame every obstacle they placed in His path.

God kept on because He was had promised to send a Lamb into the world to die for sin.

Today, I want to talk about that part of God’s work that brought His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, into this world.

Of all the obstacles God faced in completing His plan to save lost sinners, the most challenging, from a human perspective, was getting His Lamb into this world.

We have seen how God promised a Lamb; today, we will look at how God prepared the Lamb.

So we come to the message today “Behold the Lamb Prepared.”

Our text will be from Luke 1:26-38 as we turn to this text I would like to take these verses and show you how God accomplished the impossible through the birth of His only begotten Son.

So if you would honor the Word of God by turning to Luke 1:26-38 and stand as we read from Luke 1:26-38.

Scriptures

26And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

28And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

29And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

30And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.

31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. “For he is The Lamb of God.”

32He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

34Then said Mary unto the angel, how shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

35And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

36And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 37For with God nothing shall be impossible. 38And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:26-38 (KJV)
