III. Who are the recipients?

• “Strangers in the world” 1 Peter 1:1

• “Scattered throughout” the world 1 Peter 1:1

• “Who have been chosen” 1 Peter 1:2

Chosen – mean to be pick out or to be selected from

The elect

- In the OT to a nation an eternal act

- In the NT to a church an eternal act

- Now to a person an eternal act

• “Chosen according to the foreknowledge of God” 1 Peter 1:2

Foreknowledge - to be foreloved by God

• Those who receive the “sanctifying work of the Spirit” 1 Peter 1:2

Sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit – a process Peter was very familiar with in his own life.

• Those who are sprinkled “by his blood” 1 Peter 1:2

I guess you can say…

It is people just like us!!

THREE CIRCLES

What are the lessons we can learn from this passages:

1. We are strangers in this world.

2. We have been chosen by God.

3. We should strive to walk with him on this journey.
