1. Don't Waste Your Life
Contributed on Aug 7, 2016
It is not enough to have great potential or show great promise. It is what you do with that potential that makes all the difference. A good beginning does not guarantee a good end. End your life well, to the glory of God.
Whatever we start, do it well and end it well. Put your heart in it and do a good job. It is more important how we end than how well we start. • This is so true of Saul’s life. He started well, but did not end well. • We are going to read about his death today (1 Sam 31), and ...read more

2. The Recovery
Contributed on Jan 7, 2017
Take responsibility for your sin, ask for God's forgiveness, trust in God's intervention, resolve to serve God again.
We deal with sin WITH God, not apart from Him. Without God, the problem of sin can never be resolved. • Last week we saw God initiating the move to confront David of his sin. • Nathan enlightened David, recounted the facts and stated the consequences. David saw the light and repented ...read more

3. The Ultimate Good
Contributed on Mar 6, 2017
Trusting God for the good as well as the bad in life, because He will achieve His purpose for the ultimate good in our lives.
Reading the story of the life of David, from the beginning (1 Samuel) until now (end of 2 Samuel), is like reading a man going through a Christian boot camp. • David went through a lot, to be where God wants him to be and do what God wants him to do. God was training His servant. • David ...read more

4. God Will Do What Is Good
Contributed on Nov 9, 2016
God will do what is good in His sight. We trust Him by doing what is right and leaving the rest to Him. Doing what is right will cost us, but it is the right thing to do.
In 2 Sam 10 the king of the Ammonites, Nahash died and his son, Hanun (hey nun), ruled in his place. • David wanted to show kindness to the new King, so he sent a delegation to express his condolences to Hanun for the loss of his father. • Unfortunately, this good gesture was ...read more

5. Wait On God
Contributed on Aug 14, 2016
Wait on God. His timetable is not always the same as ours. His ways are different from ours. God's concern is not in bringing us to a destination but in transforming us into the likeness of His Son.
Now that Saul the King has died, we would expect a smooth transition and David to be made King, as God has so promised. • Since this has been God’s plan all along, we thought everything would be neat and tidy. But it’s not going to be so. • God can work in ways that are ...read more

6. Living Without God
Contributed on Aug 27, 2016
Abner was driven by his own will, his own gains, and his own ambition. Such godless pursuits lead him to a life of vanity and fruitless end.
The author devoted 4 chapters in the beginning of 2 Samuel to the 7½ years before David was made King over all Israel. • And half of this portion has to do with this man Abner, the commander who once served under Saul. • He was only mentioned briefly in 1 Samuel as the son of Ner, ...read more

7. Be Patient With God
Contributed on Sep 6, 2016
Be patient with God. Don't take matters into your own hands. Give God time. Focus on the Person of God, and not the promises.
Let me ask you this: Do you know how long it takes to hatch an egg? 21 days. • Is there a way for us to shorten the days? Can we do something to speed it up? • I’m afraid not. Speed up the process and we would spoil what God is doing. Most of us have a problem waiting for ...read more

8. Honour His Presence
Contributed on Sep 27, 2016
Come clean with reverence for God. Draw near with holy fear of God.
We are going to read about the Ark of God in 2 Sam 6. It has been a long time since we read about it in 1 Sam 7. • It was after the period of Judges, before Israel demanded for a King. • 1 Sam 7:1 “So the men of Kiriath Jearim came and took up the ark of the LORD. [from the ...read more

9. A Tale Of Two Houses
Contributed on Oct 5, 2016
David wants to build God a house, and God in turn reveals that He wants to build David a house, one that is eternal. God has in mind the salvation of the world. He wants to dwell in the hearts of every believer.
Last week we saw how David moved the Ark of the Lord back to Jerusalem. • He was careless at the first round, but did it right the second time. He heeded God’s Word and followed God’s way. • We honour God’s presence with reverence and a holy fear. We COME CLEAN ...read more

10. The God Who Accomplishes His Purposes
Contributed on Oct 24, 2016
Nothing can thwart God's puposes. God accomplishes His purposes through us.
Power is a test of our character. When we are given the power to do what we want, what we choose to do will reveals WHO we really are. • Whoever leads has great power. And that’s what worries many. • That’s probably what makes the US Presidential election so tense. And ...read more

11. Transformed By Kindness
Contributed on Oct 31, 2016
Initiate kindness. Kindness transforms. We are all Mephibosheth before God. Let the kindness of God flows through us.
Kindness is a language the dumb can speak, the deaf can hear, and the blind can see (Mark Twain). You don’t have to say it, people know when it is there. • Kindness is more than just loving people. It is loving people more than they deserve. Kindness is ‘going the extra ...read more

12. A Clean Start
Contributed on Jan 7, 2017
Deal with sin WITH God and not apart from Him. Take responsibility for your sin. This sermon is part 1 of 2 parts. The sermon following this is The Recovery.
We are going to talk about a common experience today, and how to deal with it. • Since Adam and Eve, man has been reliving this problem countless times. And many still do not know how to deal with it. • What to do when we sin against God? Let’s read 2 Samuel 12:1-13. David sinned big time. ...read more

13. When Your World Crumbles
Contributed on Jan 13, 2017
Pray passionately. Submit ultimately. Trust completely.
What do we do when our world falls apart? • We pray for God’s help, and submit to God’s will. We keep faith with God and believes that He is good and He knows what He is doing. • Let’s learn this from David in 2 Sam 12:13-23. ----------------------------------- Nathan said to David: “The ...read more

14. The House In A Shambles
Contributed on Jan 23, 2017
Deal with sin WITH God's help. Understand the need for confession, for correction, and for change of our ways of living. All of these Cs can only come through Christ.
Sin does not just affect the person who sin. It affects those around them. • A husband who sin affects his wife and children, the child who sin hurts his parents, a pastor who sin devastates the church, a leader who sin messes up the nation… • Sin contaminates everything around. It infects and ...read more

15. Trusting God In An Unjust World
Contributed on Feb 5, 2017
There will be injustice in this world because man sins. God will judge. He loves justice. We are incapable of true justice or understand God's perfect judgement. God has His purpose.
2 Sam 15:1-12 TRUSTING GOD IN AN UNJUST WORLD ES 5 Feb 17 1667 Life in a sinful world will not be neat and tidy, because sin and sinful people are present. That includes us, before we know Christ. • Over the course of the last few chapters (2 Samuel), we have seen the innocent abused, the ...read more

16. God's Purpose Prevails
Contributed on Feb 15, 2017
Man can have their plans but it is the Lord who detemine the outcomes.
Prov 19:21 “Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.” • Man can make his plans, but ultimately, God’s purpose will prevail. • David is God’s choice as King of Israel, and he will remain as God’s choice. Absalom wanted to seize the throne from ...read more

17. Man's Desires, God's Will
Contributed on Feb 20, 2017
When man's desires take precedent, we lose sight of God's will. We need to "sanctify" our desires by seeking God to know His will and surrender our will to His ways.
Man has his desires, God has His will. Our desires do not always sync with His, of course. • We can have godly desires, knowing what God wants. We can have ungodly and selfish ones, driven by what we want. • There is nothing wrong with human desires; God made us with such longings. • But ...read more

18. Be Grateful To God
Contributed on Mar 12, 2017
Acknowledge God in all our successes, believe God is our security, and count on God to see you through.
Included in the Epilogue of this book is a song of thanksgiving written by David. • The author says David sang it; he did not simply tell God that he was grateful, he sang it. Can tell he was happy and glad for what God has done. • This song is Psalm 18, with some words changed or rephrased, ...read more

19. Righteousness And The Fear Of God
Contributed on Mar 21, 2017
We serve God's purpose in our generation and we do that with righteousness and the fear of God.
2 Sam 23:1-7 RIGHTEOUSNESS AND THE FEAR OF GOD ES 19 Mar 17 1830 2 Sam 23:1 “These are the last words of David…” – not in the sense that they are his words at death-bed or before his last breath. • 1 Kings 2 mentions David’s last charge to his son Solomon and that might be his last personal ...read more
