1. Living Sacrifice?
Contributed on Aug 30, 2017
Sacrifice can a foreign and strange thing to us. When looking at sacrifice, it is help to look at purpose, place, and presentation. When keeping this in mind, we can apply his point to our lives and see the richness of the imagery and truth.
Sacrifices were important and instrumental to the worship life of believers in the Old Testament. We might be unfamiliar with them, so it can helpful to look at them in detail. When talking about sacrifices, I find it helpful to talk about three things: purpose, place, and presentation. Purpose. ...read more

2. God Is For Us!
Contributed on Aug 16, 2017
How would you summarize the Gospel message? Do it in one sentence. Now, take what you have, and shorten it. Can you do it? Paul can. He summarizes the Gospel message with just four small words....God...is...for...us!
The message of salvation is the most important thing that we will ever hear in our lives. It is also something that we are called to share as well. If you had to summarize the Gospel message in one sentence, how would you do it? What words or phrases might you use? What things would you ...read more

3. No Such Thing As Free Lunch?
Contributed on Jun 22, 2017
Nothing in life is free. EVER. In Romans 5, Paul tells us of one thing that is entirely free: God's Grace.
How do you introduce yourself to a person you already sort of know? It is an awkward thing, isn’t it? It is weird to start with your name, since they already know it, and you know theirs. On the other hand though, you just cannot easily go into a conversation since you don’t really know the ...read more

4. What You Were, What You Are
Contributed on Jun 22, 2017
It is interesting to see what we once were and to compare it with what we are. Paul does that in Romans 6 as he says we once were slaves to sin, but now are slaves to righteousness.
Flipping through old photo albums, or even Facebook photos, can be a very interesting thing. It is neat to see what you were compared to what you are now. It can be interesting to see how you used to look and dress compared to how you do currently. Sometimes it can make you say, “What was I ...read more

5. Story Of My Life
Contributed on Jul 8, 2017
Story of my life. It is the phrase that you never want to say. As Paul writes Romans 7, we hear him sigh and say, "Story of My Life." As we look deeper at the chapter, we see that it is the story of our lives too!
Jack has been working at a certain accounting firm for years. He graduated at the top of his class but his career seems to be stagnate and going absolutely nowhere. He begins to feel frustrated as he is passed over time and time again for the new positions and promotions. Not wanting this to ...read more

6. Sons And Daughters
Contributed on Jul 13, 2017
Romans 8 is one of the most beloved and comforting chapters of the Bible. As Paul writes this chapter, he gives us a wonderful picture of salvation: adoption.
In my NIV Study Bible, the cover and blank pages toward the front are filled with Bible verses. When I got that Bible in college, I would write on the cover and those empty pages Bible verses that I liked and wanted to be able to reference easily and quickly. One day, as I was flipping through ...read more

7. Grooooan! Creation Groans, The Spirit Groans, We All Groan.
Contributed on Jul 26, 2017
History is full of turning points. In Romans 8, Paul tells us that we still suffer from the turning point that happened in the Garden of Eden. However, history's greatest turning point, the death and resurrection of Jesus, is undoing the effects of that
One of the unique things about history is being able to look back and to see the moments and turning points in which everything changed. It is neat to see how some of the smallest, and seemingly unimportant events, at a certain moment in time, had a bigger significance than anyone would have ...read more

8. Word
Contributed on Aug 16, 2017
God's Word is a powerful thing. It is where God is found, and the instrument that He works through.
Last week, when my wife and I were doing a 10 hour car trip with our four-year-old nephew, we did everything that we could to keep him entertained. As you do that, you can really scrape the bottom of the barrel in trying to find ways to keep him entertained and happy. At one point, we were ...read more

9. A Shorter List; 30 Vs 2
Contributed on Aug 30, 2017
In Romans 12:9-21, Paul gives us an overwhelming list of 30 encouragments. However, they can be slimmed down to just two overarching themes: self-sacrificial love and overcome evil with good. We also see how these things point us to Jesus.
Our text from Romans this morning is quite challenging. Paul writes to encourage God’s people to live in their in the calling, but his words are overwhelming to us. “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil. Hold fast to what is good. Love one another…be fervent in spirit…rejoice in hope, be ...read more

10. I Owe You
Contributed on Sep 7, 2017
As a nation, state, and people, we know debt. In Romans 13, Paul calls us to have one more debt: love one another.
Being in debt is never fun, nor is it easy. As a country, we know what it is like to be in debt. Our national debt is astronomical. It is roughly 19 trillion dollars. If you were to break that down, that would be $61,000 per citizen, or $165,000 per tax payer. This debt is also not going down ...read more

11. Food Fight!
Contributed on Sep 14, 2017
In Romans 14, the apostle deals with an issue about food and days that stems from Christian Freedom. When discussing this matter, Paul points us to our identity in Christ, and how that impacts this issue and these debates.
How we see and define ourselves is one of the most important things in our lives. Our perception of ourselves can affect a variety of things. It can impact how we think about ourselves. It also impacts how we can feel about ourselves. If you think you are important, you will feel important. ...read more
