1. Nehemiah's Prayers

Nehemiah's contemporary, Ezra, had taken some of the exiles back to their homeland and rebuilt the temple. But the walls had been broken down and the gates had been burned. This is where Nehemiah comes in. Let's see how prayer factors into this endeavor.

I'm starting a series on the different prayers of the bible. In looking at why they prayed, how they prayed and what they prayed, we'll gain insight into how we should conduct our prayers. We start our journey with the most popular prayer-the Our Father.

In 2000 a little book by Bruce Wilkinson called, "The Prayer of Jabez" was published. It sold over nine million copies and received multiple awards. It was a good read and it drew attention to this otherwise overlooked prayer.

You may have heard this term before but were not sure what it meant. In the simplest of definitions it's praying for someone else or on someone else's behalf. We should be interceding to help others both in our everyday lives and in our prayer lives.

5. From Warrior To Sorrier Then Back Again

There was an alter sacrifice and the prophets of Baal keep chanting "oh, Baal, answer us!" for many hours, but nothing happened. Then, Elijah offered up a short prayer and God consumed the sacrifice. But soon after things took a turn for the worst.

The Our Father in Matthew 6 is typically referred to as the Lord's Prayer. But really, John 17 is what should be called the Lord's Prayer because it literally is the prayer of Jesus. Jesus' longest recorded prayer has much to say and there's much to gain.
